landed on the side of my foot

yesterday I suffered an injury too my right foot-

At a training session for jiu jitsu i preformed a throw on my ooki. however the guy being a low grade locked up pulling me off balance as he landed. If got pulled over him and landed on the right side of my right foot. Followed by a crunching sound, which made sensai cringe. After that i sat off but since i have been unable to put much pressure on it. making walking almost impossible.

there is no brusing yet but the side of my food and swollen up alot.

Any suggestions on treating the swelling so that it is reduced asap. Also what are the big signs of a break or frature? i really hope it isn't as grading is only a week away.

Hi,

using ice is only recommended in the first 48 hours to keep the inflammation down. if you are still needing the ice after 48 hours, I'd suggest going to a good phyisio therapist and having it checked out.

Hello  you can use ice 10 mins on and 10 mins off until swelling subsides and wrap in an ACE wrap to help stabilize the area.  Ensure the ACE wrap isn't too tight because it can cut off the circulation to your foot and leg, if your toes or leg turns blue or feels cold to the touch you need to loosen the wrap because it IS too tight.   A break symptoms are generally seen as pain and swelling, bruising may or may not be present depending on whether or not you ruptured the veins in that area, so either you have broken it or sprained it badly. But the crunching sound you heard sounds more like a break, but only an x-ray can tell you for sure.  You really need to see your doctor, go to ER, or an immediate care so an x-ray can be done, and in the mean time avoid putting weight on the area as it can make the symptoms worse.     I Hope This Helps and  Good Luck.
