Carol in PA is correct, it is from a bacterial infection called "Bartonella". Previously thought only to be transferred to humans from infected cats, they now know that there is an unidentified strain born of ticks that causes this type of "rash", that looks like stretch marks.
What I find so interesting is that everyone who posted here is seeing this on their 15-16 year old sons. My son is also 15 and was recently diagnosed by a ND with Bartonella. He has had depression, anxiety and OCD since onset occurred. I took him to his pediatrician and he told me they were stretch marks. I found this difficult to accept since my sons BMI is low and he has never been overweight. The ND took one look and ran about 30 tests to diagnose him. Been a long road.

I recently noticed these same horizontal markings on my 15 year old son's mid to lower back. He says it isn't painful. He is tall and very thin with very little body fat. I realize that these comments were posted several years ago but I was wondering if there was any more insight on what causes this. Thanks!
These marks could also be from Bartonella.

Wow, my son is 15 also and has the exact same thing and we suspected the same thing! However our doctor, just last week, has told us they are stretch marks. But he is tall and thin so they have taken blood tests and I am waiting for results. I understand it can be Adrenal glands or Marfans syndrome or Cushings?
If you have found out anything will you let me know? It is hell not knowing what is wrong with your child...I will help if I can also.
