I was also very overweight when I had my second child.  My MD told me to gain no more than 15 pounds, and to start some exercise (walking, swimming), I did and only gained 9 pounds. Hopefully this helps!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! A pregnant mother only needs about 300 extra calories a day throughout her pregnancy. Ask your OB Dr about good food choices and also about exercise. You should be able to walk throughout your pregnancy which will keep your weight at a healthy level. If I'm not mistaken, the normal weight gain is between 20 and 30 lbs during pregnancy. Some women have a little more and some have a little less. Again, ask your OB what normal is.
