:) No problem.
I suffer with mild asthma and trouble with coughing up mucus that drops down from the sinus area to just below the oesophagus. I get triggers, for example a drop in the temperature will set me off. It is very annoying because no sooner you cough up and clear the tubes, there is another bout. I usually get up and have a hot drink of honey and lemon or a herbal tea.
I don't sleep with my mouth open. My husband does and doesn't suffer from mucus drop or coughing. He just suffers with a dry mouth and is constantly waking and having a swig of water.
Feeling of heaviness and rattling on the chest should always be investigated.
Sorry jemma- I meant this for retiredinparadise. Newbie. Beadyeye ( I make and sell jewelry)
Don't know if you are a mouth breather at night. If you are (I am), the mucus that your lungs are constantly trying to sweep out will dry and thicken so that when you wake you have this disgusting gurgling clot that you are trying to cough out.
Try Breathe Right strips- the original ones, not the fancy schmancy ones that fall off during the night. Take guaifenisin- not mixed with other stuff-JUST guaifenisin as in Musinex or any house brand like walmart's or Target's. They make a 12 hour version which I plan to try and you might consider. It's more expensive, but it might get you more than 4 hrs. sleep. Guaifenisin is from the bark of a tree. Google it if you're curious.
You may need an inhaler for the wheezing. Convince your doctor that you want to try a month of an anbuterol inhaler. Within three days of my starting my inhaler, I couldn't squeeze a wheeze out. It's great to be really breathing at last! Good luck! Beadyeye
If you have been experiencing this chesty problem for a while, you should make an appointment to see your doctor so that he can listen to your chest. If you have a bacterial infection the doctor will prescribe an antibiotic.
Your doctor may also do a lung function test to find out if you have asthma.
If you are a smoker, it would be wise to cut down and gradually stop smoking. Do steam inhalations. In a large bowl pour in a kettleful of boiling water. Put some Vick or olbas oil into the hot water. Take care not to get scalded. Bend your head over the bowl and cover your head and the bowl with a towel and breath the steam through your nose. Do this 4 times a day for a duration of 10 minutes each time. This will help to loosen up any congestion allowing you to cough it up.
With your stomach problem, it appears that it is producing a lot of acid and sometimes you may feel acid reflux coming up to your throat. To help with this as well as taking your medication as prescribed, eat foods that are not highly spiced and avoid fried foods. Eating small meals is better and not eating and drinking too soon before bedtime will also help with acid reflux.
Best wishes.
