I have had episodes of vastibular neuritis (might be spelling this wrong), It is an infection (typically viral so antibiotics won't help it) in the semi-circular canals of the ear (so the inner part of the ear) and you won't have the feelings of pain and pressure like you do with a regular ear infection. It can only be daignosed based on symptoms as they can not see it with the ear instrument. Typically you do feel severe vertigo becuase these cananls hold the messaging fluid that interacts with yor brainb and tells your brain and body where you are (lying down, standing, sitting, etc) and if you ar moving. whne ou get an infection in these canals it sends irratic messages and your brain and body get confused on what is actually happeneing as the messages being sent are not correct. Google it and see if your symptoms match - they sound like they might. Only way to fix it is ot tkae Bonine or Dramamine (or the like) for motion sickness when you feel it starting. I prefer Bonine and it works whenever I need it. So go ahead and google Vastibular Neuritis (spelling may not be quite right).
I saw my family practise doctor and she said that it was my ear. She did a partial neurological exam and it was normal. I have seen a neurologist a few months ago and was normal then as well. I haven't had it for two days so I hope it is on its way out. I had some ringing in the right ear and some noise like pressure the day that I had it. I just wondered how long it took to go away. It is pretty scary to feel like you can't figure out if you are falling or upside down etc. Weird. I also saw an ENT but not for this and had a CT of my neck and maybe head and it was normal. That was for a lump in my throat (which turned out to be a muscle knot not a tumor or swollen salivary gland like they thought). I hope it doesn't come back. thanks for the link too.
thanks,
