Hi, Willie! I'm sorry to hear about how uncomfortable you are. Willie......I hope that you are going to a "Specialist" for Thyroid problems. Right now, isn't this awful, I cannot remember the name of the "type" of specialist! Anyway.......I had awful thyroid problems years ago. My throat felt tight like that and "thyroid" is what it turned out to be. However.........you can have those symptoms like someone else here said when you have "GERD"(acid reflux). One thing you can do, if it is "acid reflux" I remember my dear Aunt's doctor telling her was to put 3" wooden blocks under the top part of the bed(under each leg at the top) so that any acid will drain "down" at night rather than stay in your throat! It worked! Using just a "pillow" did not. Because you are "scrunching" your neck when you use something soft like that. You need to just go to a hardware store or Home Depot/Lowe's, etc., and have them cut you those 2 3" high blocks and place them under the legs where your head rests. I have also heard that "Apple Vinegar" believe it or not, can help with acid reflux! Seems crazy, I know, but it was on tv one evening. A tablespoon I believe it was. At night. During the day, also, if you need it. Don't be uncomfortable any longer, though......get some help even from another doctor until you have this figured out and bring the results you have now on paper with you. Take care, be well and let us know how you are doing! Take good care. Happy Holidays! You will be alright!! Sue
The worst thing to do if you have elevated PTH is to ever recommend to anyone that they take megadoses of Vitamin D. I myself have hyperparathyroidism getting ready to have surgery done in few weeks from now. My PTH level is very high two test shows 110 and 165 on different occassions. My Vita D level is 4 and 0 on two tests. Calcium levels are high at 11.2 and 12.3.
Hypercalcemia can be a dangerous condition and one cause can be hyperparathroidism. If you have disease for long time like myself, the body will try and protect itself from the high calicum levels by shutting down Vita D in order to protect body from even higher calcium levels. A parathryoid or more typically will have a benign tumor causing the overproduction of PTH which is root cause of the problem. It is not safe for someone with hypercalcemia to take Vitamin D. A great reference is parathryoid.com.

Go to a GI doc and have them test for GERD.
GERD is one crazy (insert favorite expletive here) disease. It has some of the furthest range of symptoms. Including? Sore neck, lump in throat (very common, I have this), back pain, and difficulty sleeping.
I would often wake up thinking I was choking. Turns out, it was mucous produced to protect my throat from the acid.
Talk to your doc about the possibility. They may be skeptical, but seriously, look into it.
I looked up what I could on Pth. Has to do with the Parathyroid glands. If it is elevated, it means you are not storing/using calcium properly. You may need to take maga doses of Vitamin D to prevent further problems. Also Magnesium was recommended for the throat/swallowing problem. Hope this helps some.
