err I meant Bull's eye rash
thanks! I'm not a Doctor and to say who I am not sure I have been in search for the same answer recently... eheh
Honestly I don't have crystal ball but it doesn't really seem like you have Lyme. not even a wee bit why would it give you so much hassle.
your Doc. supposed that 1/16 bands was sufficient to take Lyme into consideration, he's started the therapy for it and it appears to have failed. Don't know if that is the case but in my experience I have noticed that humans, including Doctors, have a really hard time admitting they made an error. They try to mask it a bit like the notorious "lipstick on a pig".
Any ways he's only giving you antibiotics not like he removed your kidney.
I read that Western Blot testing for Lyme is a fairly new technique, they have only recently established what makes a positive test and it depends on the type of bands that are positive. not all bands are the same some are more specific for Lyme.
the one that was activated in you could have been activated by a different type of bacteria that maybe was doing no harm.
Therefore you understand 1/16 positive doesn't mean that you have a "wee bit" of Lyme. It means that you don't have Lyme and probably you never had it.
check this article it's really clear
http://www.canlyme.com/wb.html
Even if you did have Lyme the WB doesn't give indication on the "viral load" but only on which type of antibodies have been activated by Borrellia.
One more thing to be taken into consideration is how long you've been sick because the longer you've had Borrellia in your system the more bands/sections should be activated! you don't recall being bit by ticks, moreover not all ticks in the US have Lyme, no eye bull rash, you don't have fever, etc etc.
You could try consult a Immunologist or Infectious Disease Specialist to have a Specialist's opinion.
You're anxious like every person who's sick and doesn't have an explanation. This makes you rush for answers and diagnosis. First you need to accept the fact that you are ill then you can start trying to fix it.
The emotional status of a person can alter the perception of pain and symptoms depending on how much you concentrate on them but can't really create them. It also depends on the "pain killers" that are naturally created into the body, levels of adrenalin etc.
So don't comfort yourself with the illusion that anxiety is making you ill, it is illness that is making you anxious!
First of all, Gio,
I don't know who you are but your reassurance and advice is incredibly accurate and helpful. Whether you are a doctor or not, you are awesome and I appreciate you following this thread. Hopefully you won't have to for much longer though because......
My doctor called me today and all testing has come up negative in the preliminary report. He did not want me to ruin another second of my weekend thinking about it so he had the, rush all the results from the lab. He is the best. He basically ran every single possible test one could run to check for any type of autoimmune or onnective tissue disease. Only thing he said it would possibly be is discoid lupus of the skin but he doubts it. I am super relieved. My pain and achiness decreased a bit after hearing the news so now I know part of it was anxiety related. I am going to focus on dealing with controlling my anxiety disorder better as it relates to my health. The rest of it is well under control but the health thing eats me up sometimes. Doc thinks it is a combo of herxing from the wee bit of Lyme that I do have, and a reaction to the ceftin that I am on, but he wants me to stay on it and run the full course as long as I can tolerate it without going insane. He believes i do have lyme and that it is just not showing up in the strongly in the testing because it can do that sometimes. I will update as I find out any more info but hopefully it will be all good news from here on out. He also told me that negative test results are great news when screening for connective tissue disease because when results are negative, they are almost always correct, but hesaid sometimes when positive, you can get a false positive....
Medicine is a lot behind on this type of issues, don't take anything for granted except for direct clinical evidence.
the biopsy results could have been given by a variety of auto-immune disorders or just a immunological problem in general.
it does seem like you have a immunological problem maybe triggered by an infection but that doesn't necessarily mean that your body will flake out, it could be something that will regress spontaneously over time.
the fact that antibiotics made it worse is indicative that there is some type of infection probably not bacterial, although bacterial can't be ruled out, there are also bacteria that release toxins that can't be treated with antibiotics. or bacteria not sensitive to that type of antibiotics.
otherwise viral, mold or parasitic.
since you've been on antibiotics try to compensate with probiotics.
a drastic and fairly safe way to treat infections/immune reactions is Plasmapheresis , check it out. In some cases it works.
You should check your renal function too.
Hi guys,
Well I have been thrown a curve ball and that's why I have not posted in a while. My western blot Lyme test came up positive in only one out of the sixteen sections and all the rest of the Lyme testing came up negative, but my doc wanted to treat me for it anyway. My aches and pains since being on the antibiotics have gotten worse. Especially in themorning. My dermatologist wanted to test the rash on my ear for other things just in case....well he tested it and I got a phone call at ten pm the other night from him.....not good news.....the biopsy tested slightly positive for collagen vascular disease. I have no other symptoms of anything lke that aside from the aches and pains and rash on my earlobe. Obviously I have anxiety to begin with so now it has been through the roof while I am waiting on the results of the other bloodwork that they took yesterday to see if it is a type of CVD. I felt achy in many of my joints, an a bit tired but nothing crazy. Have not had a fever or weight loss or anything like that. I am just not sure what is anxiety and made up in my head and what are real symptoms. I am so scared bc wwe have a two year old and another little one on the way and I don't want my wife to have to take care of me and two babies. My regular doc said that if I do have something other than Lyme, then it is Avery early stage bc most people he has seen with these types of diseases can barely move by the time they get into his office. I am still terrified though. I am a very healthy guy and want to be around until at least 100! Anyone feel free to post if you have had a similar experience to me or know something about this....
thank you for your kind words! let me know and good luck with the Doc.!
Alright well I greatly appreciate the advice. I made an appointment for tomorrow with my doc. You were tremendously calming and helpful! I will let you know how it turns out,
right well rash and fever can be caused by a trillion different things doesn't necessarily have to be Coxsackie.
really you shouldn't think about cancer there is no reason to. it might be a virus of some sort though.
the fact that it gets worse at night is compatible with something that affects the central nervous system and/or hormonal secretion.
the pain in the tailbone is probably due to predisposition to Pilonidal Sinus (Pilonidal cyst) that might be manifesting now because your immune system is aggravated by something.
if you haven't checked full blood count etc. recently you should
Everything with the lymph system that I prevusly had was resolved. I can be a bit of an alarmist sometimes but this time I really feel just achy and genially crappy. Happens more at night and during the day I usually feel a bit better. This has been going on for about a week. I do not have fever or headache but I have feta bit of a brain fog. Might be because I have a 2 year old who does not like to sleep anymore though. I guess I am really worried about having something crazy like cancer or something. I just thought it might be a virus because of how I was feeling. My daughter was diagnosed w coxsackie by her pediatrician because of rash, fever, etc. that she was having. I have only had aches and pains and a couple of small itchy follicles that I think might be unrelated. Also have been having tailbone pain as well.
it's actually "Coxsackie". how did they diagnose your daughter with Coxsackie virus?
There is no reason to believe you have Lyme. not only you don't recall tick bites or bull eye rashes but Lyme is a direct infection of the central nervous system and if that was the reason for your muscle and bone pain you should have a lot more going on like headache, stiff neck, meningitis, brain fog, confusion.
I noticed you have had infection symptoms, lymphnodes etc going on since 2010?
what type of blood tests did you take and what are the results?
I would definitely ask your doc for Lyme testing. Only about half of all Lyme patients recall a tick or a rash. The nymph ticks are tiny, as small as a poppyseed. They are sometimes missed completely or mistaken for a new mole or a little scab.
Early testing is definitely unreliable, but it is worth a Western Blot anyway. Usually the 41 band shows up first with Lyme, and that might help make a diagnosis, even if the test is officially "negative."
