Creepy crawly feelings

I developed an allergic reaction to the Bioidential Hormone gel I was using because of the gel base the hormones were in.  It created extreme reddness and itching beyond control.  After I got off the hormones and used Atarax for a couple of days the itching and redness went away.  But the intensity of the itching had increased to the point where I was climbing the walls for days before it did go away.  Now I am left with this feeling of an itch starting or just feelings of light tingling in the vaginal area and it is not going away.  Which makes me feel like there is still something left in me that is creating this weird feeling and at times I do get itchy.  I have had every STD test and am negative for all.  I am on the Atarax and afraid to get off for the fear that this itching will come back.  What could be causing these feelings?

I have been again to another gynocologist who prescribed another cortisone cream which like the first one prescribed started making me itchy again, so I stopped using that. He also put me on a antibiodic which might have helped. I also was getting very red and a couple bumps below the vagina more in the anal area, I started using desitin because to me it looked like a diaper rash and it did get rid of that redness.  I have one spot that keeps getting irritated every once in a while.  I don't know if the itchy issue is part of the redness in the anal area or they are two separate issues. But I feel like I am doing much better but I still feel very dry and during the last exam my entire vaginal region felt like it was on fire after his exam.  I just don't understand what is going on and why I am having so many problems and everyone that examines me does not see anything wrong with me.  Most of the time I look perfectly normal but there are times that for whatever reason I will get areas that are very red and irritated.  Do you think this can all be from a lack of estrogen now that I am not taking anything?  I'm tired of running to doctors and getting no where.  Please give me your advice.  Thank you

Hello,

It is probably still related to the gel.  If it is really bothersome, a short course of steriods may be warranted.  Talk to your physician, who can examine you and monitor your progress, about how best to manage your persistent symptoms.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing
