Menstruation Cycle

Hi, I'm 17 years old, I'm a virgin. However, I had a last menstrual period in the middle of May. I still did not get the next period. I had a pain in the uterus from the last period, but only every few days and like always before the start of the period. Breast pain also occurs every few days but again not as much as ever before menstruation. What could be the reason for the delay over a monthly period? I have always had a problem with a period from 15 years but there was no gap greater than 3 to 4 weeks. Please I need answers.

HI!
If you were my patient, I would advise you that if you have not had intercourse, you are not pregnant.  It is not uncommon at your age for menstrual periods to be irregular, so I would wait up to about 6 weeks before being too concerned.  If you continue to have irregular periods, you may need to consult with your doctor--it is possible that you could have polycystic ovary syndrome which is a catch-all term for a hormonal imbalance that causes irregular periods.  Often irregular periods are treated with contraceptive pills to regulate the cycles.
Hope this helps!
