One breast is a bit tender sore

i started my period 11 days ago and it ended 6 days ago...  this is the thrid day that i noticed that my right breast has been a bit sore and tender (inside below the nipple area).  it is annoying to have my shirt even rub against it.  i don't feel any lumps and there is no rash.  could this be related to normal hormone fluctuations before ovulation?  is this a common occurence?  i had a manual breast exam by a nurse practitioner last november and she said everything felt fine.  i am 35 yrs old, not on birth control pills, never had a child by choice and am not pregnant.

Hi!
It sounds to me as though you may have developed a cyst in your breast.  It may be too deep within the tissue to distinguish on self exam.  If you were my patient, I would do a breast ultrasound.  A mammogram is not going to be very useful in someone as young as you are who has never had children--the breast tissue will be too dense.
If the breast ultrasound does show a cyst, it can be aspirated under ultrasound guidance, and cured.  If the ultasound was negative, I would give you the standard speech about:  reduce caffeine, use anti-inflammatories (motrin) as needed, make sure you have a good support bra, and contine to do self exams.
I hope this is helpful!
Good luck!
