Really Bad Cramping and heavy discharge with 9 months of IUD

I have had really bad cramps off and on and continuous heavy off white discharge since I had the IUD put in April 2010. Should I have this taken out or am I having normal symptoms?

Hi!
If you were my patient, the first thing we would try is to relieve the cramping with some medications such as Ibuprofen or Aleve.  If those medications helped, then there would be no need to remove the IUD.  I am going to guess that you have a Mirena IUD in place, and if so, the discharge is normal and not worriesome.  It is also normal to have minimal or no bleeding/period.  If you otherwise like the IUD, it might be possible to continue to use it for several more years.
Good luck!

If the cramps are bad and cannot be tolerated, then you must discuss it with your doctor. Slight cramping is normal after putting an IUD.
