I am 39 and have had regular periods my whole life. I have 3 children, youngest us 11. We decided to try for one more. A year has gone by and no pregnancy. I started bleeding about 10 days early and went to the hospital 6 days ago. They said I have a small ovarian cyst and very small fibroids. they did a pregnancy test which was negative. My regular period would normally start today. My questions are do I still have regular periods along with the other bleeding or do I just expect random bleeding? is it possible I could be pregnant with the bleeding? Was it to early for a pregnancy test to show anything that early. Is the bleeding from fibroids the same as period bleeding?
Hi! If you were my patient, I would advise you that your periods and your fibroids are unrelated--except that fibroids can make your period heavier. Irregular bleeding is caused by a hormone imbalance. When your hormones are not in sync, you won't ovulate regularly and therefore won't have regular perods. It also makes conception take longer. You should probably speak with your regular ob/gyn about some medications to regulate periods and help speed up conception--eg. Clomid. Good luck! Dr B
