Elaine...prozac and pphn?

Hi Elaine,

Hi Elaine,

I posted in the other forum (pregnancy) about being put on prozac 10 mg. I have taken your great advice and am doing yoga and breathing exercises to deal with my mild anxiety instead. But heres my question to put my mind at ease. I took the prozac at 28 weeks for about a week. It wasnt right for me and I was too worried I was doing harm to the baby. After my 3 miscarriages last year I am always worried now.

I have read that if taken in the 3rd trimester prozac can cause pphn or other problems. Because I only took the prozac for a week should I be concerned?

Thank you so much

Hi!
Sorry -- I was away for a bit (long story)
If you were my patient, I would definitely advise you NOT to worry about pphn!
I would also discuss restarting Prozac during the last 4 weeks or so of your pregnancy as a way to reduce the risk of post partum depression. Whether or not I would actually start the medication would depend on whether we decided the benefits would out weigh the risks.
Good luck!
Please post after the baby if you think of it, or just send me a message!

I would also like to know if I do need to go back on prozac during the last bit of my pregnancy if its considered quite safe?

Thank you.
