Hi!
I hate to use the term "age", but I fear in this case I must! I particularly hate it because I am the same age! Even as early as 35, some women can start to notice changes in their cycle that coincide with the declining number of eggs in the ovaries that eventually leads to menopause.
In your case, it may simply be that you just didn't ovulate this cycle, or ovulated very early. This could be the beginning of a trend, or something that won't happen again for years. If you do start to have periods more frequently than every 21 days, you may wish to consult your doctor for some hormonal therapy to control the cycles.
If your periods resume their normal pattern, just keep an eye on them. The average age for menpause is 51, so you are entering the "ballpark".
Good luck!
