I've just had a baby too, and breast feed. Its a brilliant feeling knowing ur baby is getting the best milk possible, but ur sex life does suffer! I had no periods when I was breast feeding and also had painful sex. I stopped breast feeding 3months ago and have had 2normal periods since... and the sex is beta too!! With my 1st child I breast fed for longer, and periods were irregular for a a couple of months, but settled back to normal when my hormones settled down.
Dont worry, what ur experiencing is normal :) x
Hi!
I'm sorry for the delay in response--was very ill for awhile
Congratulations on your baby! Girls are wonderful. (so are boys).
Because you are breastfeeding/nursing, it is not too surprising that your periods are irregular. After about 6 months, most of the hormones will normalize, and your periods may return to a regular pattern. If they don't, oral contraceptive pills are safe and effective to regulate the cycles as well as provide contraception if you don't want another baby immediately.
Intercourse is very often uncomfortable for new mothers, especially nursing moms.
Sometimes I prescribe a small amount of estrogen cream to apply vaginally. This helps to thicken the vaginal tissue and reduces discomfort. Any lubricant will probably help at least a bit.
The good news is that most of these problems will correct themselves with a little more time. Just in time for another baby!
Good luck!
