Please help.. Just tissue, or miscarriage??

I'm 21, just over a week ago, I thought I came on my period (I wasn't due) I put a tampon in as normal, just
imagining I was early. I am usually very heavy, but this was unusually light, but still abdominal and back ache - however I removed the tampon after about two and a half hours anyway, probably out of habit of having to - and as I removed it, two strands of largish tissue followed, this I've never had. It wasn't blood clots - it was just tissue - like "meat" I guess. I was immediately concerned and my Mum suggested I go to the hospital just incase.
I have been having problems for the past year with pain/passing out/pain during intercourse etc and have recently
been sent for a specialist appointment as they think I may have Endometriosis - anyway, back to the point -
They kept asking if I could be pregnant, I initially said no, as I'd only slept with my (now ex) boyfriend just over three weeks previous to this incident and he's always told me he cannot have children and we've never used condoms (although I have been on the pill due to periods).
They didn't send the tissue off for sampling, but put it down to an infection due a high temperature. They basically just said it must be a build up of tissue (but as far as I'm aware, this shouldn't happen if I am regular?)
After this incident I was feeling unwell for a few days but no bleeding followed - just a bit of spotting but STILL with stomach aches and backache.
However, I've just found out my boyfriend has been back with his ex (cheating, obviously) and I found out she got pregnant by him - he admits all this but I do know that he was originally told he couldn't have children. She had an ectopic, but this is besides the point - I am now worried I could have had a miscarriage.
It's been just over a week and I started a new pill the day after the incident but I *think* I've come on - although again, it's not particularly heavy but there is still pain in my stomach and back ache. I'm confused. Please help!

this may not apply, but once i took the hormone pill that stops your period (its called the "mini-pill") and the first time when i started a large glooey lump of tissue first came out, then i had a regular period. I never got it followed up but it sounds like the same thing, and i wasnt pregnant...

Hello,

They should have done a test at the hospital to determine if you were pregnant when you presented.  If not, you can check a home pregnancy test to see if you might be pregnant.  If not, I'd encourage you to resume the use of the pill and follow up with an ob/gyn to discuss your menstrual irregularities and your history of pelvic pain.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

By the way, I just thought I'd add that I thought that being on the pill would stop my period until I finished the packet, but I've only taken eight and again am not expecting to come on. I've assumed that I've been bleeding inbetween my periods for a couple months or so, but I really don't know. I just can't stand this pain.. although it's not severe enough to get me to A&E after I've taken lots of painkillers, it's still affecting me.
