wondering

hi, i have been sexualy active for about 2 weeks, using birth control and condom (execp once).  then for 2 days i forgot the pill, but did not have sex. since the third day i started bleeding but continued the pill to stop the bleeding, and finally stopped the pill after after i stopped bleeding. but as soon as i stoped the pill i started bleeding again.

i Did not have sex while i was bleeding.

So i am still wondering is there still any chance that i might be pregnant?

pleasee help me.

thanks sincerely.

Hello,

It is normal to have bleeding after stopping the pill; it is considered a withdrawal bleed (discontinuing progesterone after multiple days of use will result in a bleed mimicking what occurs in the second half of a woman's menstrual cycle after the corpus luteum-- the cyst that forms on the ovary that has released an egg during ovulation-- stops making progesterone).

It is unlikely you are pregnant, but take a home pregnancy test if you are worried.  Repeat in one week if initially negative.

I'd encourage you to talk with your ob/gyn about other options for contraception if you are not good at remembering to take pills.  It is a struggle many women have.

Best regards,

Dr. Downing

with birth control your not suppose to stop..your suppose to take it all the time regardless unless you are trying to get pregnant....i don't think you could be pregnant but there is always a chance because you do not take your pills all the time
