HIV concern and cortisone injection

Good day Sir!
I have a quick question that hopefully you'll have an answer.
On June the 6th I received a cortisone injection in my left shoulder because of persistent inflammation.
On June the 12th, I had a high risk exposure of insertive anal sex (i was the top) without a condom with another gay male.  Very stupid.  I started panicking afterwards.  The guy told me he was HIV neg and he says he was tested a few weeks before.  However, I can't take his words for it.  Two weeks after I has swollen glands under my jaw and started a rash on the back of both arms, nowhere else on the body.  So, I went for a rapid test this past Friday (June 8th)  almost four weeks after exposure.  result : negative
My doctor will perform an HIV DUO test (the test was approved in Canada in July 2010) this coming Monday July 11.
Will my cortisone injection from June the 6th affect the results of my DUO test?
Thank You for all your hard work.

Good day Dr José.

Just wanted to let you know that I received the results of my DUO test today.
I am happy to say that the result was negative.
My doctor said that I have to retest in 3 months since the guidelines in Canada is 3 months.

Do you often see people with a negative DUO test after 28 days getting a positive result at the 3 months mark.  In Canada, they follow closely the guidelines from the CDC, which I think is a bit too conservative.
Can I relax and move on without worrying?

Thank You for all your advice.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your post.
The answer to your question is NO.  The cortisone will definitely not affect the reliability of the Duo test.  A negative result will be conclusive.
Best wishes,
Dr José
