Risk of HIV via pierced nipples?

Hello Doctor,

I recently visited a brothel (this is in the UK) with the intention of getting some hand relief. This I know is completely safe with regards to STDs, and causes me no issues or anxieties.

The lady giving the hand relief was not exactly lacking in the breasts department and took it upon herself to give me what I'm going to call breast relief, that is, lots of close contact with her rather large boobs and my happy and unprotected penis.

The lady was pierced on both nipples (bars if I recall correctly) and the whole experience was over in 10 minutes, when said happy penis ejaculated on her chest.

Up until this point, I was happy and, I though, completely STD safe. However, whilst making small talk the lady mentioned that she got the piercings about a year ago and - the reason for me panicking and getting in touch with you - she'd heard, and I quote, "they never really heal".

At this point all sorts of horrible situations starting running through my head, most just crazy 'what if's?' based on exposure between her "never healed" nipples and my penis, but all basically being the same question: could I have picked up an STD from this encounter?

Top on my sliding scale of things I'd like to not have just acquired would be HIV, but I'd really like to know if there's any STD that could have made the jump from the lady's pierced nipples to my unprotected penis.

I don't think this is a risk situation, but I'm not the expert, hence this question.

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated, as would your advise on if I should be STD tested for this specific encounter.

Thanks.

Thanks for your reply doctor.

I didn't think it would be much to worry about but it's great to hear it from an expert.

Keep up the good work, this is a great site and a sound voice of authority in contrast to the inaccurate and often dubiously motivated information online.

Thanks.

Hello and thanks for the post,

You can relax. There is no risk at all of an STD from this, even assuming she might have had one.

She is correct to say that the piercings never heal properly as they are artificial channels with a foreign body placed through them which effectively produces a chronic non healing wound. Occasionally you will get normal skin cells migrating through.

The "wounds" though are inconsequential and do not represent a threat to you.

kind regards Sean
