Sore throat after unprotected oral sex

Dr.

8 days ago I had protected vaginal intercourse and performed unprotected oral sex on an escort. The next day I had an extremely sore throat. I'm scheduled to be tested next Monday. Some research on the internet points to sore throats being a sign of contracting HIV. I'm scared beyond belief and I'm wondering if it could be anything else?

Hello,
Thank you very much for your post.  You would never develop a sore throat related to HIV acute sero-conversion one day after the infection.  If it happens, this would never really happen before two weeks thereafter.  If this sore throat is to be related to the above mentioned unprotected oral intercourse that you performed, it could be a different STD such as throat Chlamydia or Gonorrhoea, bothe very common and very easy to contract when performing oral sex.  You can be tested with a throat swab and be treated with antibiotics.  There is no significant HIV risk at all from performing or receiving oral sex.
Best wishes,
Dr José

Is sore throat related HIV normally accompanied with high fever or just sore throat only as a symptom of HIV?
