Hello,
The calculated risk from all known information on the subject of oral sex with ejaculation from an HIV positive individual is zero to zero point zero four percent (0 to 0.04%) at its maximum.
The good studies which have looked at the subject in HIV discordant couples - couples where one person is HIV positive and the other HIV negative - have shown zero transfer of HIV. There are anecdotal reports of people identifying oral sex as their only risk factor though these are very rare.
In repspect of your 2 g azithromycin, this will have dealt with primary syphilis, chlamydia, and probably gonorrhoea. This antibiotic is not the best for gonorrhoea in the throat and the antibiotic of choice is an injection of ceftriaxone - after proving you have it or actually knowing rather than supposing that you may have it.
kind regards, Sean
this is an issue that causes much anxiety. there is obviously a small infection risk to you only if the person who ejaculated in your mouth is indeed HIV infected himself, and less so if he is well suppressed on anti retroviral therapy.
The issue of transmission of most other STI's is easier to consider ,as there is clearly a risk of contracting these through oral sex..and thus STI screening is advised at some time within a few weeks.
A related discussion,
hi was started.
i took 2grams azithromycin within 24 hrs of exposure. should that cover any possible sti's ?
what do you consider small risk percentage wise of infection
