4 months negative, still anxious

Hello doctors Hook and Hansfield. Sorry for my english in advance. I will try to be as short sa possible. I am hetero man from Czech republic and 4 months ago I had protected vaginal intercourse and unprotected oral, bothways with CSW.

My HIV test were negative at 6 weeks, 12 weeks an 16,5 weeks, exactly 115 days after exposure. My tests were 4th generation from Abbott company, for simultaneously detection of antibodies and p24 antigen.

CSW took test at 6 week mark and 10 weeks mark after sex with me and her results were negative too.

I took also a PCR RNA test and I will have my results at tuesday.

1. What are my chances, I still have it?
2. It is necessary to take another test at 6 months?
3. It is safe to have unprotected sex with my wife?
4. Was it a good idea to take RNA test at this point or was it useless?

Thank you.

Hello doctor Hook. Just want to let you know that my HIV PCR RNA test was also negative in combination with negative antibodies+antigen screening at 120 days mark. I took it as final evidence that I am negative. Take care doctor, goodbye.

Thank you doctor, your answers are very helpfull. I am still little bit anxious but I have first appoinment with psychologist at monday. I hope he will definitely help me with my irational fears and doubts. Last question doctor Hook. Is delayed seroconversion, for example between 4-6 months after exposure only a fiction? Urban myth? Idea of being infected is very scary but I am trying very hard to thing rational and collect all the evidence against HIV. Thank you doctor, wishing you good health, good bye.

Welcome to our Forum.  I can answer your questions with complete confidence. You do not have HIV.  There is absolutely no reason for further testing.  the tests you have provide clear evidence that you do not have HIV.  No further testing is needed.

1.  The chance that you got HIV from the exposure you describe is zero.
2.  No, there is no need for further testing.
3.  Yes, the exposure that you describe has not put your wife at risk. Unprotected sex with her if safe.
4.  The RNA test was a waste of money.  It was already clear that you i not get HIV.

I hope my comments are helpful.  EWH
