Comment on my HIV test results

Dear doctors,

I am writing you to comment on my negative hiv test result last 29th January (I am 29 yo hetero guy).

Risk exposures of my life: 10 months ago broken condom with csw in Switzerland brothel and 3 months ago I licked anus of a different csw in other Switzerland brothel.

In December I had proctitis which went into remission after 1 month of mesalazine (locally put). I stopped mesalazine on Jan 9th.

On 29th January 2013 I had at Turin public hospital 4th generation combo rapid blood hiv test. HIV1/2 and p24 antigen all came Negative.

I have 2 questions.
1 - Do you think rapid test can be accurate (ID doctor made test to me)? Is it safer to have one more hiv test as per double check? Do you suggest any further testing? (maybe with traditional blood test)
2 - Does mesalazine affect in anyway hiv test?

My girlfriend is hiv negative and I plan to be monogamous forever and I will never go again to any csw.

Best,
Matteo

Welcome back to the Forum. I am sorry that despite our earlier exchange you continue to worry about your exposures.  As you know from our prior exchange, you are not at risk.  Now your test results PROVE that you did not get HIV from the exposures you have described.

Yes, rapid tests perform as well as more traditional, laboratory based tests for HIV.  While some very early studies suggested that these may be slightly less sensitive than laboratory tests, more comprehensive, recent studies show that the rapid tests are equivalent to the laboratory tests. Believe your tests - you do not have HIV and you do not need more testing.

2 - Does mesalazine affect in anyway hiv test?
No, mesalazine has no effect on HIV test results.  Believe your tests. EWH

Dear Mr Hook,

Sorry if I wrote you again but I wanted your last comment on my negative test (to be sure I did all correctly and I don't need further actions).

Now I will stop to think about hiv and I will be on the very safe side.

Thank you very much.

Best regards from Lugano!
