Cunninglus Risk

I have read extensively on this forum that acquiring any STD or HIV is “virtually no risk” and should not worry about anything.
My circumstances are a bit different.First episode: I have an unprotected encounter, and have had a test at 29 days that was negative, which was reassuring Second Episode: I then did something stupid on the day of the results, I had an episode of licking her vagina, anus and her giving me a blowjeb with protected sex. The condom slipped halfway down and the shaft and was not fully covered. The tip was covered and remained sort of intact. At the time, I had a really dry mouth and sore throat. I also had like a sore gum on one of my teeth. There was lube in the vagina I remember. I did feel like i had a flu at the time.I am very worried as I have this condition, after 8 days I developed a really pale tongue along with this dry mouth, my doctor said it was because of the amount of medication I have been on for the past 5 weeks and poor eating from the anxiety, which is normal, however, he has mentioned there is a lesion of some sort, I do have a tooth denture and it is right under it and i smoke alot. I cannot scrape the white stuff from my tongue and is also on the sides of the tongue now. My worry comes from this persistent and worse now sore throat that has started at day 9-10 along with a lymph node in neck. My body always feels cold and get chills often, don’t know why but it just keeps fueling the anxiety. I also get like pins in my body that make me want to itch everywhere. I have read that my risk is miniscule and should not worry. My doctor in London has advised me not to test and nothing to worry about. Given your experience, are my symptoms relative to this incident given the timing, should I be worried as I never remember having any lymph nodes swollen in my life.  It’s just all too weird of a coincidence. I live in Dubai now, and I must travel to London to get tested.
Could all these symptoms be relative to the first incident.

Hi again,

Many thanks for your kind advice, the results were negative. I cant thank you enough for your reassurance and advice. Very thankful! The STD clinic here says to retest in 2 more weeks for it to be conclusive. I want to ignore them if you say so.

These symptoms all are typical for the physical manifesations of anxiety, depression, or other emotional/psychological issue -- probably a panic reaction.  I recommend you see your GP or other regular doctor, explain exactly what is going on, and then follow his or her advice about it.  In the meantime, do your best to calm down and re-read all my comments above -- and believe them.

This forum is not a substitute for that.  Do not post anything else here except your HIV test result.  If you do, the entire thread will be immediately deleted.

Hi doctor, i am writing to you because i am very scared right now. I cant get rid of this sore throat, i have these pricks all over my body, makes u want to itch. I woke up several times last night because of rhe amount of pins and needles in my hand and legs, constant night sweats, I now have these brown spots on my palms, the palm is also pealing for some reason, although they are never dry. I also have brown streaks in my nails. My apetite has reached zero and losing alot of weight.
Could these be related to my earlier exposure, i have been tested for it though.

I already told you I'm sure you don't have HIV and that a test would be negative.  If I were in your situation, I would continue unprotected sex with my wife without any worry about infecting her with HIV.

If you have an HIV test, feel free to return and let me know the result.  But I won't have any other comments or advice until then.

Welcome to the forum.

I'm not sure I fully understand the encounters described and the timing of HIV testing afterward.  The condom slippage doesn't concern me; as long as the head of the penis was covered, you can assume protection against HIV was complete.  HIV has never been reported to have been transmitted by cunnilingus, either genital to oral or vice versa, so that's not really a concern.  I can't say such contact could never transmit the virus, but if there is a risk, it is obvious miniscuel.  Also, it is unlikely your partners were infected.  Because we get many questions from expats in Dubai, I have exchanged emails with the director of the main STD/HIV clinic there (http://www.stdclinicdubai.com) and have been told that very few sex workers there are believed to be infected, and they are unaware of any expats acquring HIV from sex workers there.

As for your symptoms, they don't concern me at all. There is nothing in any of them that makes me worried you have HIV.  They are very nonspecific -- i.e. can occur in innumerable medical conditions, with minor changes in nutrition, anxiety, and other conditions.  I'm confident that they are unrelated to your sexual exposures.

Therefore, I agree with your London doctor that there is no need for HIV testing.  However, that is a medical/risk perspective.  I still recommend you be tested, because it seems clear that a negative test -- done sufficiently long after the last of the sexual exposures you are concerned about -- will be more reassuring than expert opinion, from me or anyone else.

And of course you can be tested locally, without going to London; the clinic I linked tests foreigners all the time.  I understand you don't want to risk having a positive result in country, but there's no chance of that.  Anyway, it seems silly to worry about a positive result either.  Sure, they would make you leave UAE.  But if you were to have HIV, you'd have to leave anyway to get the necessary medical care.  And if positive in London, you wouldn't be permitted to return.  So what's the difference?

I hope this has helped.  Best wishes--  HHH, MD
