Glad tohear it. Take care. EWH
Good news dr Hook. Negative combo test after 5 weeks after end of PEP treatment. Thanks for all the quality information you have given me, your pacience, and for your time dedication here.
Your imagination is working overtime. Please get over this. You did everything you could for a low risk event. I would not worry if I were you. EWH
Hello Doctor. Im wondering to test in 3 days that complete 3 weeks after PEP. I've just start to get worried again after reading that some strains of the virus are resistant to AZT. My PEP treatment was just lamiduvine 100mg + zidovudine (AZT) 300mg. Do you think that lamiduvine could handle the azt resistant virus? This very resistant virus are rare? Thanks once more
Your risk of infection is low- you do not know that your partner had HIV, most exposures do not lead to infection and you successfully took PEP. For you to have been infected would be very unusual. EWH
Hello again doctor. It was very hard due side effects but fortunately I was able to take PEP treatment for the role 28 days after 30h of exposure. Now I'm waiting 4 weeks period to do first testing. In this meantime, that I still very frightened, I would like to ask you on your experience have you seen cases of people taking PEP as recommended and still turning HIV positive? Is it rare? Thanks once more.
Testing at 4 weeks after completion of PEP will provide strong evidence as to whether or not your PEP worked. EWH
Thanks a lot Doctor. This make me feel less worried. Last question to close this post. How long I can take HIV exam after PEP with some accuracy? I've heard that definitive results after PEP comes 6 months later. I can't hang 7 months with this
Doubt in mind. Maybe 1 or 2 months after PEP already give some assurance? What can you advise me? Best regards.
Welcome to the Forum. I will be pleased to comment. Like you, I find your partner's behavior a bit worrisome. I do not understand why she would not be willing to discuss her HIV status with you. Thus, I understand why you chose to take PEP.
IF she was infected (you do not know that she was), the risk for HIV from rectal intercourse after your condom broke is about 1 infection in 200 exposures (0.5%). PEP is thought to reduce your risk for infection greatly, perhaps as much as 99%, Thus this would reduce your risk for infection a great deal, to about 2 infections in 20,000 exposures. PEP is highly effective and that you started it at 30 hours after exposure is a good thing.
If you keep taking your PEP, there is very little change that you will have gotten HIV form the exposure you describe.
I hope this comment is helpful. EWH
