You do not have HIV. The flu pased between you and your boyfiend. Last post. Move on. EWH
Thank you very much Vacation Anxiety and Doctor. I went to the doctor and got tested. My doctor also said the same things, that symptoms are quite not resembling those of an HIV infection. You answers really put me into a much peaceful place for a mind, and I could focus on my work again. And my flu is getting better.
However, doctor, today I got a call from my boyfriend. On the third day of exposure, we kissed he gave me oral sex for less than a minute we stopped everything. I told him about my getting a flu and he was very anxious too. Today (which is again exactly 10 days after our sexual contact) he got a sore throat. This makes me sooooo anxious again. Exactly what are the risks of this that if I have HIV, will be trasmitted to him? I am so nervous and feel so bad right now.. Thank you very much doctors.
I am 9.5 weeks past possible exposure. I had a test at 7 days, 3 weeks and 6 weeks. The six weeks included the PCR DNA test as well as the standard Ab and Ag test that is standard in my city (takes 2 days to get the results for the Ab and Ag but almost 2 weeks to get the PCR back).
I can tell you that after every test that I have had so far (all negative thank god) a huge weight has lifted off my shoulders.
Also time flies!!! Focus on the end date (12 weeks) and put little milestones on your calendar, especially at the 6 week mark. You will feel alot better with every week that goes past. Try to think positive and keep yourself busy doing stuff like hobbies and work.
It is still something I think about and is constantly in the back of my mind still, but in 3 weeks I will get tested for the last time and hopefully breath a sigh of relief.
Chin up and keep positive. Learn your lesson and never ever forget the ugly feeling you are now feeling from a moment of sillyness. Good luck, you'll be fine based on purely stats.
Thank you doctor for responding. Just one more thing, if my symptoms go away so quickly, (like my sore throat, in 1 day or less), does this indicate that the symtomps are not caused by HIV? Or are they still possible HIV symptoms? Thank you.
Your exposures were high risk but the fact that your symptoms came on so immediately and the presence of respiratory symptoms make it this somewhat atypical for the acute retroviral syndrome. My guess is that you got a community acquired, viral, flu-like illness which is not HIV (and not necessarily from your sex partner). That you partner states that he has been recently tested and is negative also works in your favor.
The PCR test would be positive if this is the acute retroviral syndrome. If you choose to have it and it is negative, in my opinion you do not need further testing but you do need to practice safer sex.
Good luck. EWH
Also am I good to be tested on the 13th day after exposure for PCR DNA testing?
Yes the anal sex was received both ways.. It was unprotected.. I was so naive.. But neither of us ejaculated inside either of us.. and I didn't feel much pain due to foreplay so maybe I didnt bleed inside so may be that lowered my chance of getting infected? I know it is stupid to think that way but I don't know how to comfort myself.. I called him and he said he is safe. He get tested every 3 monthes. But I don't know if I can trust him because even if he wasn't lying he can still have HIV and be in the window period.
The flu started on the 11th day and now it is the 12th day now and it is exactly the right timing.. My sore throat is gone but my nose keep running and I am feeling tired. I felt hungry but I ate a burger for dinner and I am already full. Usually I eat a lot more, esp when I didn't have lunch today. Does a typical flu do that to a person?
I always wanted to rest on bed but I force myself to work because I want to tell myself that it is not fatique.
My toungue goes a little white but after I ate the spicy burger it goes somewhat redder/ normal again.
I am so nervous. I heard that there is a PCR test in my school medical center that it's free. It is a PCR DNA testing. Is it different from PCR RNA testing? I made an appointment for tomorrow. I am so scared. Thank you Michael for responding.
Your symptoms sound like they started too early to be hiv. Hiv symptoms start 10 - 14 days after contact. The runny nose with sticky and yellow fluid seems like a cold or flu. I had a simiar experience 2 years ago and the anxiety almost killed me. I'm negitive. Every little ache and pain, bug bite, was a major problem. So don't let it drive you nuts. I think you can get tested after 6 weeks and then again at 12 weeks. Did you use a condom? Did he *** inside of you? I am NOT a doctor.
