Need help

I am a straight married man of 16 years.
7 years ago went out with a few friends got drunk and we all had sex with the same stripper we picked up. No protection was used.
Since then my wife has had a baby 3 years ago (she was tested for hiv prenatal screening) no issue.
But know she is having reoccurring yeast infection every mouth with her period.
Should I be afraid and get check 7 years later?

Welcome to the forum. Thanks for your question.

Even among commercial sex workers, strippers, etc, the vast majority do not have HIV, and the chance of getting HIV from unprotected vaginal sex exposure averages about once for ever 2,000 exposures.  So the chance you caught HIV during that event 7 years ago is extremely low, probalby no higher than 1 in a million.  Your wife's negative HIV test when she was pregnant shows she wasn't infected at that time.

Most women have vaginal yeast infections from time to time, and contrary to what you can find on some websites, an increase in frequency is not a sign of HIV.  However, your wife definitely should make an appointment with her primary care provider or gynecologist to check this out.  The most common medical problem that triggers recurrent or severe vaginal yeast infections is diabetes, so this is something for your wife to discuss with her doctor -- especially if she is overweight or if there is a family history of diabetes.

Because you are worried and apparently have not had an HIV test, I recommend you do so.  Every person is supposed to have an HIV test somewhere along the line, even if there is no known risk of infection.  This would be a good time, since it's on your mind; and because the negative result probably will be more reassuring than anything I can say.

Feel free to return with a follow-up comment to let me know your test result.  However, I won't have any further comment until then. Stay relaxed in the meantime -- you definitely can expect a negative result.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD

Probably HIV test results are available from most labs in Canada within a day or two.  There's no reason to stop having sex while you await the result.

Whether I have seen such a patient or not is irrelevant.  I also haven't had a patient who was struck by lightning.  Rare things happen.  (But no, I have never had such a patient.)

Thank you Dr H.
I have an appointment this Friday. I don’t know how long it takes for the result to come back in Canada, but will post the outcome.
Two quick questions.
1-Should I stop having sex with my wife till the results are back?
2-Have you ever have any man reply that they where positive after vaginal onetime unprotected sex?
