HIV Possible side effects and Exposure

Hello Doctor,
Day 1, I had oral sex and then inserted my private part once into hers without protection then pulled out realizing this whole situation was all wrong. Day 4 I did have ear and throat pain on monday but went away within 3 days. I was doing a lot of drinking that weekend and shared shot glasses so could be from that. I did however notice itching around the groin area then followed by left testicle pain then felt something travel to my shin which caused shin tingling. I went to the doc on day 8, gave me a shot for gonorrhea, I believe cipro and 10 day 2x pills of Doxycycline and did gonorrhea test and chlamydia urine test and both were negative along with ultra sound to testicles and were negative. On day 11 or 12 I start getting numbness/tingling in my pinky and hand first in left then in right followed by right side of face. Day 15 right ear got real red and burning now went away. Day18 I did STD/HIV test all negative, except I did already have genital herpes got years ago. I believe the HIV test was a regular one not the PCR one that I believe can detect the presents fast. Day 17 got really bad neck pain and shoulders are very stiff. Day 20 today I still have numbness in fingers, slightly toes, left testicle pain and shin is very slight and now lower back is really hurting now. Talking to my doc today he doesn't think it's HIV since no primary symptoms (flu like, lymph node issues) occurred and want's to monitor the numbness. He seems young and i worry about his experience. I would really appreciate any advice you can give I have cried since day1, could this be early symptoms of HIV? What steps should I take from here? Thank you :-)

tis will be my final answer.

Your tsts at this time are conclusive.  you did not get HIV or other STIs from the exposure you described.  Believe the test results.

The neuropathic pains you describe (tingling, etc) are not suggestive of any STI.  It sounds to me like your doctor is doing the right things to evaluate these symptoms.  They are not related to the exposure you describe. EWH

Hi Dr Hook,
I hope you are doing well! I followed your advice and I did get tested for common STD's and HIV at 8 weeks, all negative. I believe that should be good right?

Question:
I still have bad tingling/numbness in lower leg, hands and now forearms with sharp random spikes of pain in those areas. Been getting really bad tendon, calf pain, joint (ankle, neck, wrist) and forearm pain. Can't really walk or do any sports, my muscles will hurt bad. Feels like some infection is in me and spreading. When I first had symptoms after incident and before medication (Doxycycline/Rocephin) was left testicle pain followed by shin tingling. I'm a pretty happy person so can't be anxiety unless medicine side effects but I had some tingling prior. I feel like something is eating at my muscles and joints.

Other than the common STD's have you ever seen this? My doc has done all types of random blood work testing (lyme, B12, etc) but all negative. This is why I come back to STD's since this exposure started everything and there are like 20 or so STD's. Any advice is most appreciated thanks again :-)

No change in my assessment or advice.  If you are really concerned, I suggest that you ask your partner to be tested.  If her tests are negative, this will confirm that this is not realted to the brief encounter you describe.  EWH

Sorry just realized pepto bismol could cause the tongue, I took some before going to bed and I think it was that.

Hi Dr Hook, thanks for helping me. I've been having some developing situations if you don't mind helping again :-) I had taken your advice, relax and move on and started doing normal stuff again then additional things start happening.

On and off night sweats and getting up super early can't sleep
Day 23 - Started having slight headache
Day 24 - headache, sore throat, left neck lymph node slightly swollen and throat feeling like someone is choking me
Day 25 - Saw doctor, he noticed thrush on the back of my tongue, he seemed a little concerned. He doesn't say much wants another HIV test in a couple months
Day 26 - stomach got real upset on/off feeling like could throw up then had hot flashes/sweats during the day
Day 27 (today) - been waking up with headaches last few days, night sweat, stomach still not feeling good at all, I feel like I could throw up, I have no energy at all and will sweat and get hot if trying to move around, throat is still sore, tongue thrush, and left neck lymph node slightly swollen. A few red bumps on upper chest/shoulders and outer butt crack that itch. I feel like i'm just surviving the last two days and on the verge of getting ready to be majorly sick right now, been working from home to help the best I can.

A little more info on the person if needed, I believe she has a high possibility of having either HIV or STDs based on additional info and living in DC and having bisexual/homosexual acquaintances. Having the itching and left testicle pain earlier in this issue just says to me enough fluids passed into me but not sure what all did.

Not sure what to think right now, I very much appreciate your input and guidance again. Thank you :)

Thank you doctor for the feedback it's most appreciated!

I'm sorry I forgot to mention that the last few days, day 20-21 I'm starting to get small red itchy bumps spread out on my butt mainly near the crack. I already have genital herpes but outbreaks were only on the penis. Looking at it I believe this girl has been with a lot of people and rock bands and we both did oral. So it worries me more.

Could this additional information be a sign of HIV, or another type of std?

Also I've heard that the right facial numbness I had for a couple days could be a first sign of HIV, can numbness occur within the first 2-3 weeks?

Thanks so much in advance for your additional help, you are doing a great thing with this site :-)

Welcome to our Forum.  The exposure you describe was low risk.  It is unlikely that your partner had HIV.  Most women do not and even if she did the risk for HIV from your single brief exposure is less than 1 in 1-2000.

Your symptoms certainly in no way suggest HIV- they started to soon, have lasted too long, and don't match up well with the early signs of HIV.  I would not be worried if I were you.  It is reasonable to want to test and at 8 weeks an antibody test will be reasonable but in the meantime, please do not worry.  EWH
