HIV Risk

dear Dr.

i am a 40 years old Male who lives in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

yesterday i had a vaginal sexual intercourse with a Philippians CSW, upon ejaculation i found out that the condom was already broken, i don't know when it exactly broke but i can tell you that the whole intercourse didn't take more than 15 min. -unfortunately i have ejaculated inside of her due to me not noticing the condom breakage earlier-, i panicked and asked her if she had any STD's she told me she had nothing and that this was the first time for her to get a broken condom.

my questions are as follows.

1- what is the possibility of me contracting HIV if she was positive, what is the risk i had put my self in ? is it high or not and why please

2- should i get tested for HIV ? and if yes what is the best test with the shortest window period. i heard that there is a test called combo test which will shorten the window period for 1 month instead of 3, is that right ? and what should i ask the lab to test me for ? should i say i need a combo HIV test or what exactly ?

awaiting your response, thank you very much for your consideration.

thank you very much Dr. i tried looking for the previous discussion we had and couldn't find it -my mistake- so i assumed that it was omitted as a part of a site update, any ways i really thank you for the effort and for your answer, even though this time its a bit different as it was a vaginal and not an anal exposure which makes it less risky as per your answer, i just wanted to get your professional and personal opinion on whether i should get tested or not and if you have ever encountered any HIV case that got infected through a one time vaginal exposure.

thank you again  Dr.

Welcome back to the forum.

This question is very similar to the one you asked last April.  My replies are the exactly the same:  first, that HIV appears to be rare in sex workers in Dubai; and that when a woman has HIV, the average risk of transmission for unprotected vaginal sex is around 1 in 2,000.  And we also discussed the various types of test for HIV.

Here's that other thread:  http://www.medhelp.org/posts/HIV---Prevention/condom-broke-during-anal/show/1910561
