Lip sore

Hey Doc Hook.

I took your advice and began my first therapy session yesterday with my therapist who is helping me cope with my anxieties and fears. I know this us my 2nd question and will be my last in a 6th month period. But since I am concerned about something that came up a few days ago (6 weeks 4 days post exposure) and something I have never had before. My dentist wAsnt quite sure what it was either.

But anyways, at 6 weeks 4 days post exposure, I found a small white/creamy colored dot on the inside of my lower lip down almost where the lip meets the gum beneath the lower teeth. It's the size of a lil bigger then a ballpoint size pen. It doesn't seemed to be raised or indented into the skin (canker sore). But it does hurt a little. There is also irritated red skin surrounding it.

1. Does this sound like any STD or HIV infection
2. Should I need testing because of this?
3. I saw a post that you responded to stating that anytime after 4 weeks of exposure would be proof against HIV infection.

Is this true? So would my rapid oral 31 day test be good?

Isn't 6 1/2 weeks too late for symptoms?

I have another 7 sessions with my counselor, and I'm goin to work hard to get through this. I wouldn't have posted if I had got some reassurance from them about my lip thing that appeared just a few days ago. Thanky you!

Your repeated statement was not a question. It was a repetition of what has already been told to you.  Your question was answered.  The thread is over.  EWH

I'm somewhat confused on why my last comment was deleted. It was questions used to sum up what my "family doctor" said and I wanted to see if a HIV expert agreed or if you disagreed on what terms.

This concern is another manifestation of your anxiety, not HIV or any other STD.  your dentist has examined you and if he/she thought there was a pathological process there he/she would have investigated further, not dismissed this.  While advice from over the internet is typically less helpful than advice resulting from direct observation (as your dentist has done), I will add that what you describe does not sound like ANY typical manifestation of an STD, including HIV  it however does sound like evidence that you are continuing to be hyper-vigilant related to your exposure and, as a result, are noticing things that you would have probably not noticed or if noticed, dismissed were you not so anxious.

As for your test results, standard antibody tests are completely reliable at any time 8 or more weeks following exposure.  At 4 weeks, standard tests will detect over 90% of recently acquired infections.  AT 4 weeks the so-called "DUO" (combined p24 antigen/HIV antibody) tests give conclusive results.

Hope this helps.  Stick with your therapist and try to not be self examining so aggressively.  EWH

A tongue split (fissure) seems to be on the middle of my tongue which I don't believe to have been there before. Thanks.
