Massage & testing

Hi Doctor,

I  visited Spa in Dallas about 8 weeks ago.. Where i had table shower with Thai lady washing my anus & penis.. Later in the room, both were naked (no condom) and I rubbed her for few seconds.. My penis as erajuated and it touched/brushed her vagina  (she as down and I was above her) for few seconds. later I got semen  (when I felt, I moved away from her and collected on paper) and I wiped it with papers and towel.. Later she also cleaned my penis with wet towel..

I am sure that there is no penetration  or licking or oral sex but after 6 weeks I got cold, cough and small rashes on arms and upper chest, muscular pain etc.. First I thought weather changed hence I am getting cold, cought and dry skin causing rashes.. Now I recovered cold, cough, and applied lotion to rash..
Even though I was worried too much and get tested for HIV-1 antibody after 7 weeks of this incident and results were negative.. But care advisor from std test express (not doctors) said, though result ould accurate 90% but need to tested again after 12 weeks..

From last two days, again, I got itchy body (face, back, stomach, chest, arms, thigh, penis, back & anus area ) with pimple like small reddish spots  here & there on arms, back, stomach, hands, inside penis tip  and cracks on thigh,  less interest/tendency towards sexual activity  with  sore throat and light cough..

So I am worried too much..Now  I am feeling that Whatever is happening is because of HIV

Am I know

1. Is is possibility of HIV transmission as mentioned above?
2. What all symtoms found if infected per week?
3. How reliable & accurate is HIV-1  Antibody test at Quest dignostics at 7 weeks for antibody?
4. Do I need to do any more testing or Am I good ?
5. Did u come across/know change in testing results from week 7 to weeks 12? i.e someone tested negative at week 7 & he/she tested positive at week 12?
6. Any other precaution or measure I need to take up?

Thanks..
Ryan

Hello Dear Doctor,

I am sorry to Intrude here again.. I thought of informing my 11th week results.. You help and encourage to us with ur optimistic views, so thought of conveying this to you.. As you told, it's Negative.. I believe it's concluding results, no more testing either 6 month or one year mark..

I really don't have words to Thank -you, Teak, nursegirl6572 & LIZZIE LOU  for ur views.. All of u are doing wonderful help to people and I would say ur showing "light" to many in their darkness.. I think you are "Oasis" in a desert..

Many website, CDC etc says 12th week is concluding results  but u actually evaluate incident and tell us possibility of risk, moreover and importantly u say 6 week  antibody result is 100% reliable.. People know this is how relaxing to them else it's very difficult to spend each moment from 6th week to 12th week result..

Please once again accept my heartly "Thanks to you", I can say u r a hope of ray and next to God, whom we can trust.. As HIV makes people guilty and depress but u show then a way...

Thanks again and God bless all..

1) No.
2) I don't know the cause of your symptoms, but it isn't HIV.
3) Almost all labs in the US, including Quest, use at least 3rd generation antibody tests; and if requested, 4th generation tests (antibody plus p24 antigen).  You can contact the lab to learn exactly what test you had.
4) I don't understand this question.  The negative test you had is 100% reliable.
5) See my replies above. If this ever happens, it is extremely rare.  If you are unable to accept my advice and opinion and remain fearful about it, have a final test at 12 weeks.  It will also be negative.
7) HIV cannot be transmitted by such contact.

Indee you are "worrying more than  required or necessary"  There is no need.   Move on with your life.

That will be all for this thread.  I won't have any further comments or advice. Please do not start a new thread with the same questions.

Thanks Doctor..

I am sorry to bother you..

It's 10 weeks from possible exposure, but from last weeks I have continuous sore throat, some rashes on arms, stomach, reddish tounge and reddish cracks on inside lips.. Hence I am started worrying again..

1. Do you think do I need test again at 12 weeks?
2. Why I am getting these symptoms?
3.Do you know what kind of HIV antibody test  (like 4th generation or different) is done in quest diagostics?
4. You told results are almost 100% reliable, do you think If I would have infection, it was showed by then assuming possible risky encounter?
5. You said, you never had a patient who is negative at 7 week and +ve at 12 weeks?  But did u hear any where like this? and your view on possibility..
7. You have told HIV will transfer this way, I has this massage where she touched my genetical part and my penis brished her vagina for few seconds.. Did hear HIV transfer this way? I know there must be fluid to tranfser but assuming possible/imaginable risk, I am asking this question.

I know I am worrying more than  required or unnecessary; but my characters is always double safety , hence I came back and asking these questions..

Thanks for your suggestions..

"why CDC suggest that to get conclusive results  at 12 weeks after possible exposure?"  Apparently you didn't read  the other thread linked above.  Do it.

"is there better way to avoid such risky situation?"  Will power, I guess.  And avoiding certain kinds of massage parlors.

In the US, I would guess around 1 in 1,000 massage parlor workers have HIV.  The only clients who catch HIV in massage parlors are those who have unprotected vaginal or anal sex while there.

Thanks Doctor.. But why CDC suggest that to get conclusive results  at 12 weeks after possible exposure? so, here can I conclude -ve results with imagining possible highest risk?

Also, I see many people on forum get tensed after visiting massage parlour, is there better way to avoid such risky situation?

Also normally, on an avg. how many massagers infected by HIV and for how many clients get infected by parlour visit with involving in dfiferent activities like intercourse (both with & without condom), massage, body rub etc

Thanks & have a nice weekend..

Welcome. I'm happy to confirm the accurate replies you had on the HIV prevention community forum.  Seuxal transmission of HIV requires a bare penis (no condom) inside another person's vagina, rectum or (rarely) mouth.  As none of these occurred, you were not at risk.  But even if you had the highest risk imaginable, it wouldn't matter.  Your test results show you were not infected.

1) No possibility.

2) HIV symptoms cannot start sooner than 10 days after exposure, and your symptoms don't suggest HIV, which does not cause stuffy nose or cough.

3) Almost 100 % reliable.

4) Based on the non-exposure events you describe, you did not need HIV testing at all.  You certainly don't need any more tests.

5) No, I have never had a patient with negative results at 7 weeks and positive at 12 weeks.

6) You need not take any precautions and don't need additional tests.

For more information on time to reliable HIV testing, read the thread linked below:
