Hello Dr. given the details I described to you before and the advice, assesment you gave me, I decided to tell my fiancee what i've done out of guilt,as anticipated she was upset but decided to work it out as long as I tested again at the 8 week mark(58 days) standard Hiv 1/2 antibody test blood draw in lab that came back negative, I discussed the results with the chief I.D. Dr. at my local Kaiser hospital and told me the test was conclusive and that I can 100% move on with my life, Dr.Hook would you 100% agree as you also are an expert in the I.D. field that the test is in fact conclusive and final and can put this behind and enjoy my life with fiancee and kids 100% A respected 2nd statement from a great Dr. like yourself would be very appreciated thank you Dr.

Welcome to the Forum. I will try to help.  It is safe to assume that the exposure you describe did not give you HIV. there are no instances in which persons receiving oral sex from infected partners have ever been shown to have gotten HIV.  As for your giving her oral sex, there are a very few cases in which persons may have gotten HIV from performing oral sex on an infected partner.  The official estimate of this risk if less than 1 in 10,000.  Further, for the reason I will list below, based on your test results, your risk for having gotten HIV from the exposure you describe is less than 1 in a million. I would not worry further that you might have gotten HIV form this exposure and do not see any need for more testing.

The basis of my estimates are:
1.  It is unlikely that your partner had HIV. she told you she didn't and most people tell the truth and the rates for HIV among commercial sex workers in Las Vegas is less than 5%, probably far less.
2.  As I told you, the estimated risk for infection, if she had HIV is less than 1 infection per 10,000 exposures.
3.  The HIV test you had would have detected over 90% of recent infections if you has acquired infection.

Putting all of these figures together- 1/10,000 X 1/20 X 1 in 10, you mathematical chance of infection is no greater than 1 in 5 million.

I hope this comment is helpful.  there is no reason for worry or for further testing.  Take care. EWH
