Dr. Handsfield and I share the forum. You got me. FYI, the reason we share the forum is because we have worked together for nearly 30 years and while our verbiage styles vary, we have never disagreed on management strategies or advice to clients. I have reviewed your earlier interaction with Dr. Handsfield and certainly endorse all that he has told you already.
Your new post is a bit hard to follow. You state that your exposure was on August 27 (2 days ago)- did you get the date wrong, was this another exposure or is this just a fabrication? Please clarify.
No matter what the timing however, the statements that Dr. Handsfield and your doctor have made still hold- the exposure you initially posted about was no risk and that you add condom exposed genital sex to that does little to increase the risk. It is still highly likely that you coincidentally got a viral infection following your sexual exposure of concern. Since then, you have managed to pass it on to your partner. The chance that you got HIV and have since passed it on to your partner in whichever time frame is the correct one is virtually non-existent. Further evidence that this is the case is that, as you point out, if you had the ARS, you would have had a positive blood test by now since persons with ARS reliably have positive blood tests two weeks following the onset of ARS.
From your post, it also appears that anxiety and guilt has gotten the best of you. I agree with your doctor, HIV is not a concern. you (and your partner need symptomatic treatment for the non-STD viral infection you have and you need to get a grip on yourself., If you cannot do this yourself, I suggest finding a counselor or mental health professional who can help you with this. There is no reason for you to be worried about HIV at this time. EWH
I know you said no further comments, but i was diagnosed as a diabetic today. My dr. thinks that i am in an autoimmune state where my body is attacking my pancreas. I am concerned of the possibility that this might cause late detection of antibodies for hiv. also, my partner finally tested wich came back neg, so i am just wondering between our 2 neg results, but with this new diagnosis should i test again?
I stated no further comments. Please re-read my answer. EWH
My partners fever went away within 24 hours, but the next day she got an extremly sore throat, nasty cough, and canker sores on her tongue. these symptoms seem to be getting worse. would a subsided fever and onset of other symptoms be consistant with the ARS?
thank you again for your help. this is a step for me to start getting over this. my dr. agrees about possible depression and anxiety and has prescribed me wellbutrin until i can get into therapy.
thank you for your help and advice. just one more follow up question.. is a 6-8 week test necessary in my case?
The rapid finger stick tests are just as accurate as otehr HIV tests. Believe the result, you do not have HIV. EWH
and it was a rapid result finger ***** test that i did if that makes any difference.
