I had protected vaginal and unprotected oral sex with a sex worker in S.E. Asian country (high risk of her being HIV positive). Before giving me oral sex she went and brushed her teeth. (that worries me now since I have read brushing is not good before oral sex). Also she got a cut in the washroom and there was slight blood in her leg. She pushed the skin with her hand. After that she gave me a blowjob but only for 30 sec. and then we had protected vaginal sex. Now I am vary worried whether she used the same hand to give me oral sex because she obviouly had blood on that and she was holding my penis with it. After 4 weeks I did a test and it was negative. then exactly at the same time 27 days after this exposure, I had a mild sore throat, no pain but just mild enough to now there is something when you are gulping saliva. I though it will go but it did not for nearly 3 weeks and its soo mild that it doesnot bother in anything else. Also there is sometime pain in my right ear and my teeth and jaws are paining for the last 2-3 days. I ordered a home testing kit and after 47 days, I was negative again. ! week after the test mt throat is still in the same situation. Do I need to be worried

I will only say this was a no risk exposure one more time.  This was a no risk exposure and you do not need further testing.

Dear Doc,

Just to clarify why do you think there is no problem even if she was giving me theblow job while holding my penis with the same hand which might have her blood. Does not there a chance of transmission in this way

You never had any reason for concern and do not need to be worried at this time.  The quoted figure for HIV risk, if one has oral sex with an infected partner is less than 1 in 10,000 and, in my estimation that is too high. Some experts state there is no risk at all from oral sex.  Neither of us on this site have ever seen or reading the medical literature of a convincing instance in which HIV was passed by oral sex.  This includes by all of the people who have recently brushed their teeth, with or without bleeding gums, had gum disease, etc.  Your negative HIV tests only confirm what we already know- that HIV is virtually never transmitted through unprotected oral or condom protected vaginal sex.

Your symptoms are due to something other than HIV.  Probably a community acquired, non-HIV vial infection.  You have no need for concern or for further testing.  EWH
