what is the confirmatory test for HIV

IF THE VIRAL LOAD OF A HIV POSITIVE PATIENT IS ZERO FOR LAST FIVE YEARS WITHOUT TAKING ANY MEDICINE FOR AIDS AND IS LIVING A HEALTHY LIFE WITH CD4 VALUE 490 CAN WE SAY HIM CURED ?
IF NOT WHAT TEST WILL SAY THAT HE IS CARRYING THE VIRUS ?
PLEASE DONT SUGGEST ANY ANTIBODY TEST BECAUSE ANTIBODY TEST DOES NOT DETECT THE VIRUS.

This community is for members who are HIV+ or are living with AIDS.  While someone who has a condition can be a great support to someone who is concerned that they also have it, this community is for those who are already diagnosed by testing.

If you have questions about your own HIV status, risk factors, testing, etc., please visit our HIV Prevention Community -

Hi there -

Someone asked me to check this out, and I agree that there is no cure for HIV.  An undetectable viral load doesn't mean you don't have HIV, and you can still transmit it if you have unprotected vaginal or anal sex, or share needles for drug use.

If there are questions about your HIV status, then make sure to get the confirmatory test Dr. Santos mentions, the Western Blot, if you haven't already.  If that's been done, and the WB was reactive/positive, you do have HIV and always will.

I hope you are under the care of a doctor with experience treating HIV, as you should continue to be monitored with the PCR-DNA test Teak mentioned, and can make medication decisions based on what the experienced doctor says.

No he is not cured.
PCR-DNA test is used to monitor his HIV progression not an Elisa test.

Hi,
How are you? Indeed, most HIV tests look for the HIV antibodies rather than looking for HIV itself in the blood. There are tests that look for HIV's genetic material directly, but these are not available worldwide. Positive Enzyme immunoassay or EIA may need a follow-up  or confirmatory test such as the Western blot to confirm the diagnosis. It is best that you discuss the results with your attending physician. The CDC recommends that a licensed health care provider with experience in treating people living with HIV help with the diagnosis and management. Take care and do keep us posted.
