I'm scared

Had unprotected sex in 2006. Afraid to have test coz I don't know how I will react to it if it turns positive. Don't know what to do :(

I'm sure you know, as indicated in your replies to others, testing beyond 3 months post-exposure is absolutely unnecessary and constitutes EXCESSIVE TESTING. Please do NOT encourage other posters to indulge their irrational fears by implying it is appropriate to test beyond the established WINDOW PERIOD of 3 months for ANTIBODY TESTING. Though well intentioned, this type of advice only serves to undermine the therapeutic environment we work very hard to maintain. If you wish to offer posters suggestions, please educate yourself or inquire with a Moderator so you may inform accurately and consistently. Many of us are professionals in the Healthcare/HIV field and are here to help.

and the best way is to get tested. I had high risk exposure in 2008, got tested 6,5 weeks, 8,5 weeks, 17,2 weeks and 2,8 years past exposure. The last test was actually last week and I got the results today. Negative. Now I can really breath lighter. Do it man, get tested - you will be flying from lighter burden right after.

The average sexually active white heterosexual female in the US is at relatively low risk for HIV. As you were told in your other thread, other STDs are far more prevalent and transmissible than HIV. Testing does not give you HIV, it gives you information that allows you to move on with your life. Please so the right thing for yourself and have an HIV test- you will not regret it.

Thanks so much. Simple words u said touched my heart. Is it better to test or just continue living without knowing. Saying things you don't know won't hurt. I can accept I think if I die but d stigma & shame it will bring to my mother sisters and son is unbearable
