Scared

Dear Doctor,

Hi I had gone to a massage parlour on 12th April, i just fingered the lady i have a habit of biting my nails and also sometimes have cuts on my finger skin due to that, and she also gave me an oral with a condom on me,

i had fever after 3 days of the same, the fever went away in 2 days time but i read about the symptoms of HIV post exposure and have been worried since then, after 3 weeks and 1 day of exposure i noticed i had  swollen lymph in my neck just under the chin and also behind my jaws, i also had a white patch kind of a thing on my throat, and heavy itching on my chest area which caused rashes, sine then i have been worried and been poking all parts of my body to check for some swollen nodes and all, i have also have hot flashes in my neck,  a

i got tested for hiv at 4 weeks which came out to be negative, it was a P24 antigen test (is it reliable)

all these symptoms went away gradually, now a few weeks back (About 4 months after exposure) i am having headaches every day, initially it used to be on left side, top of nose, between eyebrow and the eye, and now for the past two days it has moved to the right side, i am also having blurred vision.

i am having swollen lymph nodes which come and go everyday behind my jaws just under the ear, i read somewhere that persistent lymph nodes that come and go are a sign of the infection, also i have had a white coating on my tongue which goes away easily on scrapping, its not painful at all

i know i had a very low exposure incident, i am really worried and need your help to get over it

everytime i get over it i get some symptom, this time these headaches are screwing my mind

awaiting your reply

thanks a million ton

Hi Dr. Sean,

sorry to bother you again, i assure you this will be my last question here,

for the last 2 months, i have been having tingling and pain in my feet which comes and goes, i have had mild sinus and regular headaches,

also my stoll frequency has increased but they are not watery at all, my lymphnode on the left side under the jaw is swollen sometimes, my cbc tests are absolutely normal,

i am really going nuts with all this, do you think these symptoms are due to hiv or are they even related after 6 months post exposure,

how long do swollen lymphs last?

please reply

regards

Hello again,

Symptoms are only relevant in the right context.

I myself have muscle aches and pains, a sore throat, headache, fever etc today - these could be HIV related if I had been exposed - but and very importantly, I have not been exposed and therefore they represent a bad cold only.

In your case, you have mild to irrelevant symptoms, had no risk and have had a good test which is negative. Therefore irrespective of your concerns and symptoms, you are HIV negative.

Best wishes, Sean

Hello,

You are HIV negative.

You will NOT acquire HIV through fingering.

best regards, Sean
