Received and Performed Oral Sex, Received Rimming and Kissing

Doctor,

Had potential exposure early morning 14 AUGUST 2010.  He performed oral sex on me mostly (5-10 minutes) and rimmed me, as well as kissing me for a minute or so.  I did not ejaculate.  I briefly gave oral sex (one minute). Twice his penis hit back of throat & I gagged. He did not ejaculate, was tired, fell asleep.  I spat saliva out of my mouth.

About 2pm that day, showered thoroughly, brushed teeth and used mouth wash.  Some notes:
* i had dentist work done 2 months prior (fillings & fissures, general cleaning).  I have brown colouring on a few side teeth due to acid wearing down enamel. However, gums don't bleed.
* Brushed my teeth about 16-20hrs before sexual activity
*he didn't appear to have sores on his mouth or penis.
* i have lump on inner cheek from when i bit it some weeks before.  I hadnt bitten it in days prior to 14 August.  Even though i haven't bitten it for a month now its still there.

2pm that day, showered thoroughly, brushed teeth & used mouth wash.  Slightly sore throat, small phlegm
* 16 August doctor noted inflamed throat, did gonorrhea, chlamydia, syphilis, Hep 1/2, herpes tests (i thought  too early) - negative
* 17 August white stringy substance covered inner cheek peeled - just the scab?
* 18 August throat  more sore and more phlegm
* 21 August neck lymph glands & ears sore, hurts throat to eat solid foods with texture
* 23 August back teeth sore.  24 August dentist said either acid attack or wisdom teeth playing up
* 24 August did p24 antigen test, EBV
* 25 August (TODAY) throat only scrathy, slight phlegm

Have been tired, but have been for last month (lack of sleep & 4X2 hr plane flights)

Is it common to get sore throat from giving a man oral (hitting back of throat)?
Is the white stringy substance likely to be just the scab of
What is HIV risk?
Other possible diagnoses (strep throat, gonnorhea, tonsilitis)?
How accurate is p24 antigen test at 10 days? How accurate is antibody test at 28 days?

Bern201 if you wish to ask the doctors a question please start your own thread and not interrupt others, particularly when they are asking sensitive questions and have been feeling stressed about the outcome!!!!

Two days can certainly be too soon and I would advice you to repeat the test.
Regarding the article mentioned, I would totally disregard it by now as it as published in 1997 and things have moved on a great deal since then.
Best,
Dr José

Hi, I've found a medical literature online which states possible route of HIV transmission through oral sex. Could you all kindly provide opinions on this?

Thank you for your reply.  Just to confirm, yes there was a throat swab for gonnorhea and chlamydia two days after.  I thought this was too soon afterwards - should I get another swab?

Hello,
Thank you very much for your post and welcome to our HIV forum.
First of all I would like to reassure you.  None of the sexual practices you were involved on that occasion would have put you at any risk of having been infected with HIV.  Therefore I honestly think that you can disregard any of your symptoms.
A sore throat would be more likely to be related to throat/oral Chlamydia or Gonorrhoea.  The test that you had for this, did it involve a throat swab.  If it did not, I would advice you to do it.  If you did and it was negative, than all you have had is just a sore throat.
None of the HIV test cannot be considered conclusive.  However this is irrelevant.  You dod not put yourself at risk in the first place and you did not need the tests in the first place.
Best wishes,
Dr José

Doctor,

just to follow up i started experiencing ear ache around 21 August which would get sore if exposed to loud sounds - makes me think tonsilitis perhaps in addition to other symptoms.
