Concerned about HIV from oral sex

Hi,

Stupidly I had sex with an 'escort' the other day. I had protected vaginal sex, and received protected oral sex. However, I performed unprotected oral sex on the lady and 'close mouth' kissed her. I had an HIV blood test and swab for sexual diseases taken one day after the encounter. This was purely to satisfy my piece of mind whilst at the Dr for another reason.

What are my risks of contracting HIV/AIDS or a sexual disease through me performing unprotected oral sex in this manner?

I have heard that after 3 months tests can almost definitely prove whether someone is infected. What should I do now? Should I receive later tests?

I am quite worried about any possible contamination.

Cheers.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your post.
You do need testing for HIV or any other blood-borne viral infection as you did not put yourself at risk at all whatosever.  Performing oral sex on a lady and kissing are risk free form the point of view of HIV.  Therefore no need to even worry about it.
From the point o view of other STDs, there is a possible but low risk of having contracted Chlamydia or Gonorrhoea in your throat; you would need a throat swab to test for these.
Best wishes,
Dr José

Well spotted Roman.

I think..obviously... that Jose had mean't to say "you do NOT" need testing. It is easy to make a critical typo and whilst we try not to, it can happen.

Just to add to the confusion a little, my advice would be the same as Jose's but to add that there are a tiny number of cases worldwide where HIV transfer has occurred from menstruating female to male performing oral sex on her. Consequently my advice on this is always that it is fantastically unlikely but a few times out of 85,000,000 cases it seems to have occurred.

best regards, Sean

Thank you for answering my question. You replied that "You do need testing for HIV or any other blood-borne viral infection as you did not put yourself at risk at all whatosever". This doesn't make sense. I'm assuming that I'm not at risk as later on you say that "Performing oral sex on a lady and kissing are risk free form the point of view of HIV.  Therefore no need to even worry about it."

Therefore, just to be conclude, I don't need to worry about contracting HIV from practicing unprotected oral sex on a lady right?
