Desperate. Acute phase of HIV?

Earlier this month I had unprotected sex with a prostitute (vaginal only) in a country town. After 8 days I woke up (Friday) with a bit of sore throat (I have several very cold beers the night before). The pain continued until Monday, when I decided to take azithromycin (500mg/day for 3 days). On Thursday it still had not passed, it was much worse. So I went to the doctor and he diagnosed viral pharyngitis. Prescribed me an anti-inflammatory, anti allergic and anti Thermal (if he had a fever). On Saturday the throat still hurt and my glands under jaw sore and slightly swollen dawned (I noticed the swelling through the touch). Today (Sunday) I am much better, the pain virtually disappeared, scratching his throat but only a little. If you touched the sub mandibular glands still hurt a little.

-I had no fever at any time
-I had no skin rash
-I did not have pus in throat
-On the second day I took azithromycin feces were soft, the third day I had diarrhea (once only). After my gut back to normal.

I'm desperate to be the acute phase of HIV. is it possible?
I am circumcised. that really decreases the risk of HIV infection?
what my real risk?

help me doctor.

Douglas (Brazil)

* sorry for my bad English. I used google translator to help me translate the question.

I'm too scared Doctor, I no longer sleep there a few days. Today's episode are 18 days, since I do HIV testing?

Hello

Your english is fine - I understand.

Unfortunately, there is obviously a possibility that you did contract some sort of infection from your episode with the sex worker.

The symptoms you describe do sound suspicious and I would encourage you to have a complete schedule of STD tests and also HIV testing.

It is unlikely that you would pick up HIV from a single encounter as a circumcised male - circumcised heterosexual males are about 6 times less likely to pick up HIV than non circumcised males. However, it is still possible and the only way you can know is by having an HIV test.

Best regards, Sean
