HIV Test by PCR DNA + ELISA TEST After 33 Days

Hi Dr. can you give answer my question so i can sleep well at night. First, Thank you for answering my questions, I have a few questions that I wanna to confirm. Here's my story, i have sex with a sex worker in China with a condom (protected). However, I kind of finger her what do i mean by "kind of" is i did not really put my finger inside of her, i was just rubbing her (not sure how to spell it) but i was just rubbing her "cleartarus", she took a shower and she was dry but the problem was my figher had a little cut that was 2 days ago and i was worrying about if any of her fluid get intouch with my injury and HIV got into it. In addition, one more problem was there was little of her fluid touches the tips of my penis and that also concern me about the transmission of HIV. Therefore, when i went back to USA i took a HIV DNA test by the PCR and an ELISA test after 33 days the test was done by Labcorp.  The result came back NEGATIVE.

Result.

HIV DNA, PCR/HIV AB
HIV-DNA BY PCR
HIV DNA RT BY PCR -> NEGATIVE

HIV-1 DNA NOT DETECTED

HIV 1/0/2 ABS-INDEX VALUE <1.0       NON-REACTIVE

END

My Questions.

1. The lab testing agent told me if i took the test after 28 days which i was at 33 days and combine with the ELISA and the result came back negative it is consider conclusive and i do not need further testing is this true?

2. besides PEP medication, will Tylenol or any other medication effect the validity or the result of the PCR or ELISA?

3. based on your experiences have you ever seen anyone who tested Negative at the 4 weeks mark and became positive later on without any high risk exposure or NO SEX after the PCR test.

4. one doctor told me the ELISA Test will most likely pick up a positive person after one month but not 100% is it ture?

5. should i go on with my life?

Thanks

Hi Dr.
Thank you for your answer, but i think you have a little bit of misconception of my words here, sorry for my words i should of make it more clear. I have PROTECTED Vaginal sex with the worker and the fingering + fluid touches my penis part is what concern me the most thats why i went tested. My family Dr said no risk at all but since he is not an expert in HIV/or STD i am more rely on your answer than his. therefore, would your answer change? thank you for answering my last question, i do not have any more questions and this post will end !! thanks

Good Morning!

You're fine. You are not HIV positive from this little incident you describe.

To your questions:-

1. The lab testing agent told me if i took the test after 28 days which i was at 33 days and combine with the ELISA and the result came back negative it is consider conclusive and i do not need further testing is this true?

You are fine, the tests you have had are all absolutely fine and you do not have HIV. You do not need to test again in respect of this episode.

2. besides PEP medication, will Tylenol or any other medication effect the validity or the result of the PCR or ELISA?

No - definitely not

3. based on your experiences have you ever seen anyone who tested Negative at the 4 weeks mark and became positive later on without any high risk exposure or NO SEX after the PCR test.

No - as you say, you did not have sex in the first place. The possible cut to the finger is irrelevant. At Freedomhealth we run a range of tests and on people we find to be HIV positive we often perform HIV DUO testing = 4th generation tests and also 3rd generation "instant" tests - our experience is that they perform virtually as good as each other.

4. one doctor told me the ELISA Test will most likely pick up a positive person after one month but not 100% is it ture?

Yes - good advice - this one is much the same as my answer in 3 above - and I agree entirely with your doctor.

5. should i go on with my life?

Yes please. Life is good - but short - so make the very most of it and enjoy it. You are HIV negative.

best wishes, Sean
