thrush in throat 2years after exposure

hi
i was with a sexworker in oct 2009A few days after having protected sex i got terrible nausea and then a week later a severe sore throat no fever or lymphnode swelling. I had my dr do a pcr and elisa at 4 weeks and both came back neg i then had several more elisas and orals up untill 7 months all neg. i have not had any risky behavior since I have had a crhonic cough for 2 years.  and last week the pain in my throat became severe so i went to an ent and he scoped my throat and said i had a fungal infection in my throat I have read that this could be a sign of hiv This sex worker kissed me goodby and like an idiot i didnt think about it but then my tongue tingled for 6 weeks tested for herpes but neg
Should i get retested for hiv?
what else could cause a fungal infection in the throat?
could this kiss actually have given me the fungal infection 2 years ago?
And if it was hiv would thrush come on after 2 years with no other symptoms

Hello,
You do not have HIV and you do need to get tested again.  Your sexual encounter was safe and your negative test results are fully conclusive.  In addition to that your symtoms do not correlate with acute HIV sero-conversion either.  There are hundreds of causes for oral thrush, much more common than HIV:  smoking, alcohol, antibiotics, stress, diabetes, etc.  I doubt very much that the kiss was the cause of this thrush after two years.
If you continue with these symptoms, my advice to you is to consult your doctor to find the possible causes and get treated accordingly, but I can assure you that it has absolutely nothing to do with HIV.
Best wishes,
Dr Jose
