HIV transmission and testing

Hi, I am worried about my risk of infecting by HIV. About 7 weeks ago I had sex with a prostitute in south east asia. I didn't have oral sex but I did have varginal sex. I did use condom, I used 1 condom after 20 mins, then another one until we finish. The reason I changed the condom is because I feel the fluids are quite dry after 15 mins. For the first condom I didn't really check whether it has broken or not, but I'm quite confident that there was no big break. I'm still nervous if there was small breach or holes on the first condom that I could not see by eyes. For the second condom I checked and there was no breaks, but I'm still worried about holes that might be happen to be on the condom. I did have a servere cough, but it is due to the cold that I had before the exposue. Then, after 6 weeks and two days, I came to a clinic and had a hiv test. I didn't which test I took because it was recommended by doctor. Now is week 7th, I received my result, the doctor says it is negative. On the results that he printed out for me, it says: HIV "COMBI" Test - Measures Hiv-1 Ag + HIV-1/2 Specific Ab's;  the the next row is: HIV-1Ag+HIV-1/2 Specific Ab:
non-reactive. Should I be relief for the hiv infection now? or I still have to take the test again in 12 weeks? Anf if yes, how possible that I will get postive in 12 weeks?

Regards,

Hello

You can relax. Your HIV Combi test has confirmed that you did not contract HIV from this occasion.

You are right to suggest that condom use should involve changing a condom regularly - I would suggest every 10 minutes or so for a fresh one. Use of a water based lube will also assist. I do not think that you need worry about miniscule holes in the condom.

Please do remember that we will endeavour to respond as soon as possible but actually within 48 hours. If there are urgent questions then you may be disappointed with the answer time frame.

best wishes, Sean
