Medication use

Hello doctor.  I am female and had a short relationship with a man for two months.  I had a single GUM clinic antibody test at 3 months - negative.  All other STD’s negative.  Exposure was unprotected oral performed on him (3 times during the month) and one episode of vaginal sex (condom failed).

I was happy with the result but the only thing which is bothering me is the use of Trimovate corticosteriod cream and would this affect my result?

I used the cream:

Twice daily during the 1st month I was with him
Daily during the 2nd month I was with him and daily after the relationship ended and daily during the window period whilst I waited to be tested.

I wanted to check that my usage, which was during and after, would still mean that my result can be relied upon?

I’ve also used Betnovate scalp application on an occasional use over the past year.

Thank you.

Hello

No, you can relax. The medications you describe will not have an effect on the tests.

very best wishes, Sean

oops, I forgot to add lansoprazole tablets for acid reflux, I take these periodically - would these affect results?

thank you very much.

My mind is a bit sketchy as to the exact dates I was using the cream - it may have been for longer - or does it not matter how much was used?

It's just I read all sorts of information about drugs/medications affecting HIV testing.

Sorry, I meant to add this to my original question.

Hello,
Thank you very much for your post.
There is no need to be concerned.  Your negative test results are all final and fully conclusive.  The test results are not affected by topical steroid creams like Trimovate or Betnovate.  Therefore your test result is totally relaible.
Best wishes,
Dr José
