Need help, very worried

Hello doctor, I received unprotected oral sex with a sex worker in palm beach florida.  I ejaculated in her mouth and I did feel her bite down on my penis (right around where the shaft and head meet).  I did not see any blood, but I am still concerned.  I had STD symptoms a couple days after including itching and discharge.  I was put on doxy 100mg 2x a day.  The symptoms went away then came back later.  I was put on doxy again and also given a ceftriaxone shot.  During the second time, I was extremely worried.  I did feel really crappy and had loss of apetite.  This could have been because of stress but I don't know.  I was checked for swollen lymph nodes in my neck, but the doctor said they weren't swollen.  I have felt painful lymph nodes in my neck, armpits, and occasionally in my groin.  I did check for fever and didn't really have one.  I did have a couple canker sores/cold sores in my mouth  but they went away.  I have dry lips and dandruff as well.

Hi NYCGolferDude ,

The possibility of acquiring HIV through being sucked is absolutely minimal. It is not a realistic risk for you. The risk is primarily to the other person. The chances of picking up a different STD such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea or non-gonococcal urethritis NGU is much higher as they are firstly more common and they are also hugely more infectious than HIV.

You don't say whether any tests were done to determine whether you had chlamydia or gonorrhoea. Chlamydia is sensitive to doxycycline and gonorrhoea partly so. Gonorrhoea is usually fully sensitive to ceftriaxone and chlamydia is not sensitive to it. It sounds in the end that you eventually had adequate treatment for both chlamydia and gonorrhoea and also in combination, NGU.

The crappy feeling is likely from both the illness and the antibiotics.

I do not think you have contracted HIV - but the only way to tell as you know is via an HIV test. You can have an HIV DUO test at 28 days or more and both Labcorp and Quest provide these in the USA.

best regards, Sean
