Dear Dr
As a brief follow up to my initial concerns above, following your advice I have been trying to put this incident behind me and to assist this I had a set of STD tests once I returned to Australia 9 days following my low risk activity all results were clear including HIV. All has been well until the last few days where I have been experiencing some mild headaches, mild thrush on my tounge and some tonsillitis symptoms (tonsil swelling and mild soreness whilst swallowing). My thought have immediately reverted to HIV given my recent activities and the various resources online suggest this May be related as an early symptom of an HIV infection.
Is this possible or is it more likely some thrush as I originally experienced some the day after starting the Chinese antibiotics whilst overseas that now may be continuing and causing my current symptoms.
This will be my last question to you on this matter if you would kindly reply.
Regards
Jade
Dear Dr,
thank you for you reply, I feel you are correct and i think i need to get over this regretful situation and move on with my lfe. I assume by your comments that you would not recommend HIV testing in this case but what about testing for other STD's, Given my UTI symptoms should i get tested for other STD's as i know some STD's mirror these symptom. The Amoxicillin capsules provided in china have made a great impact on the symptoms i no longer have the pelvic area pain and only a small amount of lower back pain that may be due to other reasons. I do also still readily go to the toilet to urinate but this has been less and less each day also with only a slight tingle in the end of my penis when i pass urine. i have had some headaches and some night sweats but they seem to be easing also.
any last comments welcome.
regards
Jamde
Hello
from what you have said, I can't really see a risk of anything, especially HIV. You haven't done anything much - certainly not without protection.
HIV will result from having unprotected penetrative sex with someone who is HIV positive and who is not treated effectively.
In your case you had protected penetrative sex with someone of unknown HIV status. I really can't see any route to you becoming HIV positive this way - you are confusing feeling guilty with a risk.
kind regards, Sean
