Hello,
Final on this ok. I confirm what Jose has said - you are HIV negative. Please relax and forget it. You are fine.
Best wishes, Sean
Hello,
My apologies for not having replied sooner to your initial post. I think it was missed because there were so many replies to your intial entry and we possibly missed it thinking that it had been dealt with.
First of all, I can assure you that you are HIV negative. There is no doubt whatsoever about that, bearing in mind all those negative results at those periods of time. You definitely do not need any further tests.
I agree with one of the contributors who left a post on this thread. Every so often, we do come across false positive results, not only with the rapid or insti test, but also with the HIV Duo or Combo tests. Luckily it does not happen that often because it represents an initial shock to the patient in question, like in your case. However what we alwyas do, if we get an initial reactive or positive test, additional confirmatory tests are carried out, and we would confirm one way or another. In cases like yours, all the three confirmatory tests (and as one contributor mentions above, one of this tests is always a Western Blot) would have been negative. The reason for having false positive results in some patients seems to be linked to a possible concomitant viral illness or a recent immunisation for another condition.
I hope that my comments are reassuring.
Best wishes,
Dr Jose
Dear Half Moon
I did PCR & W.B 6 weeks later = Negative I'm worried about the future, the people are telling me this test conclusive and you don’t have HIV but I'm afraid as may be the virus is in my blood and will appear again in the future and I will be positive again does HIV virus acts in this way?
elisa test is a gold standard test u are negative, for reasons unknown due to cross antibody reactions some times rapid tests show positive, usually they do a couple of other rapid tests from other manufacturers if its still positive they run a westernblot conformatory test, BUT I AM SURE A WESTERNBLOT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE? U NEVER TOLD ABOUT IT? WHAT DID THE WESTERN BLOT SHOW??
Your test results at 8 weeks will be more then 90% accurate. At 3 months will be conclusive. With all the negative tests you've had so far its unlikely you caught anything.
What was your risk?
Dear Doctor
This is might be Selly but unfortunately I did another HIV last week and I went the same place who did the initial Rapid Test and came positive so I did another Rapid test again and I got the result it was Negative and now we are talking about 13weeks and 2 days after that False positive, Sir please tell me this will close that door which has been opened three months ago or do I need to do any further test and or this confirms that I'm 100% clean from HIV.
Thank you Sir
Dear Dr.vGonzalez
Thank you very much for you answer and give me the insurance that I'm OK & NO NEED FURTHER TEST but as you can see one of the contributor mentioned that I should retest in 3 months to be conclusive, shell I relay on his answer or those test which I did already are enough?
thinkpad is right, nothing to worry??
You are just being silly now, hiv does not disappear and then reappear on its own without any other sexual activity that you did to put yourself at risk.
So far your tests are encouraging, just get a test at 3 months to be conclusive.
Sorry for being pushy but can you give me any advise please
Rapid tests are known to have about a 2% chance of false positives, negative tests at 3 months mark are always conclusive. That is why all positive rapid tests have to be confirmed with lab tests as they are first line tests only when positive.
Seeing that you had negative tests thereafter means you do not have HIV. Prepecia nor Rogaine nor Herpes would cause false positives.
If you need re-assurance post to the HIV Prevention Expert forum. The both doctors there are very active in responding throughtout the day and you will get a quicker response. This forum i believe is only updated once a day and not on weekends.
Dear ThinkPad
I did the last HIV test after 3 months of the unprotected sex and came negative but the 1st rapid HIV test was positive ! which drove me crazy, does this mean sometimes the virus disappeared and come back after a wile or maybe this positive result appeared because of the medication which I used to take or which might delayed the window period (finastride 1mg ( propecia) and melodies spray 5% for hair loss) or maybe I because I have Herpes II IgG Positive 2.0 which caused cross reaction with other virus in the 1st HIV rapid test, please advise
Dear Sir
My extra anxiety and how I'm worried about my health forced my today's morning to do another HIV test which came negative but I don't know if this is inclusive and I will not have an appointment with the needle again because I don't know if I should do another HIV test again after another period of time, that is why your advise is highly appreciated as my baggiest problem is when I got tested on the 07th of Nov using rapid test and came back positive as this was the disaster for me.
Sorry for being pushy but please understand my situation.
Dear Doctor
Let me put the tests with more organised way with dates:
I had HIV rapid test and came positive 07 Nov 09
I had ELISA Test in the same day then came Negative 07 Nov 09
I had another rapid test 2 days later = Negative 09 Nov 09
I had ELISA another 4 weeks later = Negative 15 Dec 09
I had PCR & W.B 6 weeks later = Negative 20 Dec 09
please let me know what is my suitation?
