A single exposure

Hey there,

I had unprotected vaginal sex on 1st Oct(a week ago) I was the insertive person & circumcised, & I'm very paranoid of contracting diseases because I don't know much about that girl. What's the chances/probability of being transmitted? It was my 1st time having sex.

Has anyone here reported here of being poz after a SINGLE heterosexual penile-vaginal unprotected insertive exposure? We had sex for less than 5 minutes. After the incident I didn't notice any cuts or blood.

And can a person develope ARS symptoms after a week of exposure?

PLEASE HELP ME ANYONE

HIV is rare to begin with, and it's even MORE rare to result from a one time heterosexual encounter female to male (not to mention you have the brevity on your side too).

Most likely you're JUST fine.  Your anxiety is through the roof.  You need to keep yourself busy and stop focusing so much on all of these sensations.  You're obviously reading the net a lot too, based on the things you've said here.  That's a big no no...it's only going to fuel your anxiety that much more.

NO.  Actually, in the many years I've been posting here, NO ONE has ever returned to say they became infected....even those with very high risks.  There are HUNDREDS of posters a month....so hopefully that puts things into perspective a little for you.

Take a DUO (antibody/antigen) test at 4 weeks, it will give you a definitive answer.  In the meantime, shut your pc off and go get busy living life.

Of course its possible, and it has happened. However, the majority of heterosexual men who develop HIV from women are long term partners of known HIV+ women. Again, your odds of catching HIV after a one-time unprotected heterosexual vaginal encounter are 1 in a 1,000,000. You are currently at 3.5 weeks. Go get a blood test, you will get a good indication of your status at this point. The negative result you will see will help with your anxiety. Just make sure to follow up at the 8-12 week mark for official results. This, in your case, will just be a formality as I would not expect your results to change.

Dude...relax. It is exceedingly rare for healthy (no existing STDS) people to catch HIV through a single exposure. Hell, you don't even know your partners status. If she is HIV-, you ain't got nothing to worry about. How about calling or texting her? If, worst case scenario, she does have HIV, your risks are in the range of 1in a 1,000. The fact that you are circumcised decreases your risk another 50%.
The media and other groups have an interest in saying that anyone can catch this disease is correct. However, they are stretching the truth a little bit. In fact, it is quite unusual for a man to catch HIV from vaginal sex alone. The odds of you 1. Having sex with an HIV + woman approx 1 in1,000. 2. The odds of the virus transmitting to you through run-of-the-mill vaginal sex. 1 in 2000 ( IF your partner is HIV+). Final odds, something in the neighborhood of 1 in a million.
At four weeks, get a DUO test for conclusive results. A blood antibody test at around 4 weeks will give you about 80-90% reliability. A good indicator of your true status. If you want, a follow up antibody only test at 3 months will give you conclusive results, as long as you have no other exposures.
Finally, as hard as it is not too. Don't pay any attention to your symptoms. The odds these have anything to do with HIV are exceedingly rare. Again, relax. I'm confident you have nothing to worry about.

And to add, i woke up yesterday night feeling my body was hot, its very uncomfortable and straight up i think was HIV related, thats when i began to have night sweats for that mere 1-2 minutes, it could be anxiety that made me sweat. Please anyone help. I'm getting tested next week. Yesterday i did back and bicep workout but then when i woke up this morning my chest were having cramps. Thoughts?

Yesterday night (marks 24th day after exposure) i had a night sweat for mere 1-2 minutes, i didnt have any fever so far until a i woke up, i guess its a mild fever. 5 days ago i had a swollen lymph node on my left armpit, its shriking but till now its not gone but its small (possibly could be the cause of a fall i had on my elbow from a football match 2 weeks ago) and to add, yesterday i had a scoop of C4(pre work out drink) and also took a pill of blue heart(dnabol, steroid). So i don't know this is confusing me. Help :-(

95% of people develop the antibodies with four week of time and over 99% people take 12 weeks or 3 month and in very rare case its take up to 6 month ( give that a person had vaccination , other type treatment that effect the in immune systems )

DUO test is for p24 antigens / antibodies
antigens are visible in 4-6 weeks of possible risk after that its cant be detectable ...the 4th generation test is not for antibodies but also for the antigens ...

i hope it will answer your question

Don't know what the guidelines are in UK but in the US this is the case now. As per the CDC's new guidelines a 4th gen at or after 4 weeks can be considered accurate enough to be "conclusive" (I hate that term actually). Except in particular situations.
However for antibody tests the 3 month mark still rules.

Test result after 4 weeks is not conclusive but can give u relief.. 3 months antibody test is conclusive.. Make sure to engage in protected sex in future..take care

My apologies!!  After reading the new guidelines and reading some of Howard H and Nurse girls comments I stand corrected on a DUO test.

My reading and understanding of a DUO was approximately 95% accuracy after 4 weeks(28 days).

I believe the stance of the CDC now is that a 4th generation at or after 4 weeks is to be considered as conclusive. They even mention on their website that tests have different "window periods" according to their type. So can you elaborate as to why you would still advice another antibody test at 3 months? ... if it is not for peace of mind.

1/1000 chance per episode and more reducer the chance as u are circumcised,
i m new on this forums , as far as i can recalled the answers is no to what i had read so far on this forums
.the symptoms becomes visible in first 2-4 weeks of risk. one week will be early for symptoms ,
Hiv is diagnoses by test not symptoms , as i mention early u need to get the test done by 4th week for 4th generation ..if your still worried i will advise to visit the doctor regards to hiv and see what doctor say
I can understand your anxiety and stress , but need to get the test done ,,, for next couples of week ,stand away for internet and not to stay alone for while , as your mind will focus on one thing only ,, go to gym , swimming or what activites to keep your self busy still the day of test ...

Has any male here got infected by a single episode exposure? By heterosexual sex of course, and i still haven't got an answer do ARS symptoms appear within a week after possible exposure? It's exactly 1 week now & i'm having a lil sore throat and mild fever. And also i've a lump on the roof of my mouth but it shrank within afew hours when i noticed it this morning. Help?!

hey the chances are less but u had risk , been circumcised reducers the chances but u still had a risk ... have ejected in her .
get you test on 28-29 oct as its will be 4 weeks ..by that time live normal i know its hard .let me share a report on hiv 2012 ..there were 119 millions hiv test in the world and 98.6 % were negative in 2012..
but u had a risk u need to test
in future use condom , forgot about the chances/probability of unprotected sex unless u are sure about girl status of hiv

and there is 1/1000 chance which mean its possible to get infected by single episode

Only a test will tell you if you were infected.  Odds are 1-1000 a single exposure infected you.  Odds are also pretty good your partner was NOT infected either.  Get tested at 4 weeks with HIV/p24 DUO for a pretty accurate result.  But ultimately a single antibody test at 3 months will be conclusive.

One thing I will stress DO NOT self diagnose yourself.  It will only make the time go slower till you can test.
