Applied after-shave lotion on face with fresh cuts (vaginal fluid on fingers)

Hi Doctor,

Reaching out to you for your help on a critical issue. I am male. I always have protected vaginal sex.

However, I had an incident 2 days ago that has got me worried. I fingered a girl profusely and had good amount of vaginal fluid on my hand. Once this was done, I proceeded to shave my facial beard with a shaving razor. I got many visible cuts on my face through the shave (I could see blood on my face at 4-5 spots).

To ease the pain, I poured some after shave lotion on both my hands and applied it on face, pressing directly on the open cuts. However, after applying lotion on the first open cut, I immediately realized I have forgotten to wash my hands. I then washed my hands immediately and continued with application of lotion on face.

However, given that there was definite contact of my vaginal fluid soaked fingers and an open, fresh cut on my face, what is the risk of transmission I run? The total time between the fingering and the application of the lotion on cut would be between 8-10 minutes. The HIV status of the girl is unknown to me.

Does my situation merit testing? I am generally very careful about the use of condoms but this situation was quite unique. I request you to provide me your honest opinion.

This should not pose any risk to you as the virus has been exposed to air for quite some time after your encounter with the woman. However as other members have advised you, kindly wash your hands soon after such encounters to avoid other infections which are not  HIV.

To expand on AnxiousNoMore's reply, the only HIV risks for adults are:
1) having unprotected, penetrative, anal or vaginal sex, or
2) sharing intravenous needles (with IV drug users)

NOTHING else you can think of is a risk for HIV, including the event you mentioned.

However, after touching someone's genitals, you should ALWAYS wash your hands before doing something like shaving.  You aren't at risk for HIV or STDs, but you could transfer a nasty bacterial infection to your skin.

Your situation involves contact with an object in air (your hands to your face) which is not a risk for hiv. No worries, because you can't get hiv from personal contact except unprotected penetrating vaginal or anal, neither of which you did. Analysis of large numbers of infected people has proven that people don't get hiv in the way you are worried is a risk.
HIV is effectively instantly dead in air so the worst that could happen is dead virus rubbed you, and that which is dead cannot live again so you are good. Blood and cuts would not be relevant in your situation since the hiv has become effectively dead, so you don't have to worry about them to be sure that you are safe.
