Ars - spit exposure ?

Hi!

I MAY have had an exposure - I m not sure, it started like this:

Day 1 :  6pm - shaved my legs with a razor. Went out. At 10-11pm when I came back, there was some saliva on the sidewalk I did not see, I stepped in it and it touched my shaved skin (there were 4*C outside). I tried to wipe it off and I PROBABLY - i do not remember for sure if it was or not - had a smaaaaal splinter in my finger that may have touched the saliva. In 5 minutes I came home and disinfected the area. Did not notice any blood.

Day 11: Had fever and chills, sore throat, myalgia, headache, stuffed nose on one side.  They appeared suddenly.
Day 12,13: Same.

On day 14: Only mildly sore throat, and mildly stuffed nose on one side.

1. Was I at risk? Should I worry? I asked my doctor because I wanted to go for PEP and she said no important virus lives so long in saliva outside the body - but I know hep b does for example.

2. Does this look like ARS to you? 3 days of fever that went down only with medication, max 38.7*C, myalgia, headache, sore throat, one sided stuffed nose? (Even now it s stuffed on one side - but if i do something it will unblock)

Please help? Thanks!!!

You just have to listen to what your doctor said because she is correct. HIV is also instantly inactivated in air and also in saliva so there was no risk of transmission. Washing the inactivated (effectively dead) virus is not necessary.
You interact with others who carelessly cough their germs on your lips, food and door knobs so flu is to be expected at any time.

Well, I was scared because it was cold outside and I knew that the virus is stable in cold temperatures and that maybe the saliva had blood in it. So.... even if there was blood, because it was outside the body the virus losses its infectivity ? Also, thank you very much for your answer.
No it isn't stable in cold and is dead in saliva anyway. You have never read of a child getting HIV from this activity and it would be front page news if it happened.
